The book is an amazing resource for all artists and crafters who work with paper and paint. I recently started art journaling, and stumbled upon this book while searching for titles about collage and ephemera. I also do quite a bit of watercolor and acrylic work and there were techniques in this book I'd never even thought of before. What a find! Instead of a project step-outs, this book is an "encyclopedia" of techniques for prepping/painting on paper, as well as tips and tricks for a variety of mediums. "Paint on Paper" is broken down into several chapters, each discussing a different application for using paint on paper. Everything from painting on paper to dying paper to aging paper to stamping and applying materials to the surface of paper is discussed and broken down step-by-step. Each chapter consists of **many** simple "recipes" designed to achieve different surface effects on paper. Facing the each of the "recipes" is a full-color image of that specific technique so you can see *exactly* what the results are. So if you flip through the book and see an image that grabs your attention, simply look at the facing page to see EXACTLY how to do the technique to achieve that image. At the start of each chapter is a small project (paper beads, lanterns, wrapping paper, etc.) that you can try out for yourself. There are instructions for a variety of techniques and materials: resist, stamping, encaustic, stenciling, etc. using such materials as glue, wax, water, stamping inks, watercolor paint, acrylics, crayons, oil pastels. This is an awesome resource book for any artist to have in their library. I have a zillion art and craft "how to" books and this is truly the one I will reach for again and again. Perfect for those who like "how to" books but have enough project ideas to last them a lifetime.

I just purchased this book and was impressed with its layout and the wide variety of methods used to "paint" on paper. Even though I own many collage and bookmaking books, I feel that this is a great reference book for decorating paper. Even as I was reading this book, the ideas helped refresh my memory of techniques I have used before and even added a couple of new ones. This book is a well organized reference for bookmaking, collage, and/or cardmaking. I plan on using it in my classroom with my bookmaking club. Visually it is also just fun!
