The most honest book I've found for diabetics!

I have spent a ton of money on books and magazines for diabetics, but this is the first one that is truly useful to me. Sometimes, the author's "tell it like it is" approach hurts and seems harsh, but he tells us what we NEED to hear, not just what we WANT to hear. The fact is, if we want to get our blood sugar under control and avoid the consequences of diabetes, we have to accept the fact that there are some foods that we MUST learn to live without. We can't continue to play games; we fool nobody but ourselves when we try. We certainly don't fool our bodies. It doesn't sound easy, but he explains what he has learned himself, what he does, and why it needs to be done that way. He doesn't just tell us we have to give things up without telling us how to compensate for those diet deletions. He tells us how to live a satisfying life without all the refined carb foods we crave. (Would we rather have that piece of cake or our legs?) Then, it's up to us how to work the information he shares into our own lives. I'm very grateful to Dennis Pollock for sharing his experiences by writing this book. I plan to use it to get my own runaway blood sugar finally under control and I highly recommend it to other diabetics who haven't gotten their blood sugar under control yet. Following his methods, it finally seems doable that we can get our sugar under control and, at the same time, live a happy, normal life without feeling deprived all the time.

OVERCOMING RUNAWAY BLOD SUGAR IN LESS THAN 20 DAYS

I PURCHASED OVERCOMING RUNAWAY BLOOD SUGAR BY DENNIS POLLACK ON 21 OCTOBER 2006. I READ THE BOOK IN LESS THAN (3) THREE HOURS. IN THAT SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME I KNEW EXACTLY HOW TO GET RID OF MY TYPE TWO DIABETICES THAT I HAD BEEN AFFLICTED WITH FOR OVER FORTY YEARS. I APPLIED WHAT I HAD READ IN DENNIS POLLACKS' BOOK AND NINE DAYS AFTER STARTING THE ATKINS LIFE STYLE EATING CHANGE, I WAS ABLE TO STOP INJECTING 98 UNITS OF HUMLIN 70/30. ELEVEN (11) DAYS AFTER THAT ASTONISHING FEAT, I GRADUALLY STOPPED TAKING 2000 MG OF METFORMIN. MY ENGERY LEVEL INCREASED SO DRAMATICLY THAT I COULDN'T SLEEP, EVEN AFTER BEING AWAKE FOR THREE DAYS. ME DOCTOR PRESCRIBED AMBIEN SO I COULD GET 7 TO 8 HOURS OF SLEEP EVERY NIGHT. NOW ON 19 FEBRUARY 2007 MY WEIGHT HAS GONE FROM 263, A TIGHT 46 INCH WAIST, TO THIS DAY I WEIGH 221 LBS AND WEAR A VERY LOOSE SIZE 36 PANTS, SOON TO BE SIZE 34. MY CHOLESTROL IS 116, FASTING BLOOD SUGAR IS 109. THE ATKINS LIFE STYLE OF EATING IS SAVING ME OVER $6500.00 A YEAR, BY NOT HAVING TO INJECT INSULIN TWICE A DAY, CHECK MY GLUCOSE LEVEL FOUR TIME A DAY USING TEST STRIPS, USE TWO NEEDLES A DAY, ALOCHOL SWABS SIX TIMES DAILY. I EXERCISE (6) SIX TIMES A WEEK FOR 45 MINUTES EACH TIME. I USE A STATIONARY BIKE, TREADMILL. DP CABLE WEIGHT MACHINE, AND A ROWING MACHINE, ALONG WITH WALKING IN THE FOREST. THE NEW LIFE STYLE HAS INCREASED BY SELF ESTEEM A HUNDRED FOLD AND MY CONFINDENCE TO JUST ABOUT ANYTHING THAT MY YOUNG 63 YEAR BODY DESIRES. WOMEN THAT WOULDN'T LOOK AT ME BEFORE READING DENNIS POLLACKS' BOOK ARE NOW LOOKING BACK THREE TIMES AND FLASHING THOSE WONDERFUL SMILES OF APPROVAL. FOR (62) YEARS I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO EAT OR HOW TO EAT, TO REDUCE MY WEIGHT AND BE HEALTHY. BUT, AFTER READING "OVERCOMING RUNAWAY BLOOD SUGAR" BY DENNIS POLLACK ITS VERY SIMPLE AND STRAIGHT FORWARD. WITH THE INTERNET SITES THAT DENNIS INTRODUCES YOU TO IN HIS BOOK, THERE IS NO NEED FOR TYPE TWO DIABETICS TO LET THIS GRUEL DISEASE ROB YOU OF A LONG AND HEALTHY LIFE, JUST EATING NORMAL EVERYDAY FOODS AND ONLY GIVING UP ANYTHING WHITE AND EXERCISING AT LEAST (5) FIVE TIMES A WEEK. JUST GIVE IT A TRY, CAUSE YOURE WORTH EVERY SECOND YOU INVEST IN YOUR HEALTHY FUTURE. QUESTIONS? SSAE SEND TO: PATRICK O COLE SR P.O. BOX 652 VALPARAISO FL 32580-0652

Great condition

Delivery was a little slow, but the order was around Christmas time. I'd order again.

A nice personal book on getting control of blood sugar

I liked this book. It was a first person account of an individual's journey to get healthy again from being in a pre-diabetic condition. I just returned from a physical where my doctor said my blood sugar was in-between normal and diabetic. I knew I had swinging blood sugar from my feelings throughout the day. If someone tells me I have a `condition' I like to read up on it. But since I am not diabetic, picking one of the books on diabetes did not seem the right way to go. Nor did picking a book on being hypoglycemic or hyperglycemic since I was pretty sure my blood sugar was swinging both ways. So this book was a nice find written by someone essentially in the same boat as me. The author writes with a pleasant personal approach. He clearly is a practicing Christian, and I am NOT one, and while I too resent it when people try to push their religion by disguising it, I didn't feel at all that this is what the author was trying to do (compared to the reviewer below who took strong issue with it); his religious references seemed consistent with his personal touch mixing his core belief system into the book, and it was not at all overbearing or done overly often. One thing I liked about the book was the emphasis on taking control of blood sugar by using a home blood sugar tester consistently throughout the day to get an idea of how foods affect my blood sugar levels. I immediately bought one and using it really taught me some lessons about what food can do to my blood sugar and which to favor or avoid. I know this is old hat for anyone with diabetes, but again, I think many pre-diabetics would never think of doing this and there is great value in it. His low-carb recommendations are consistent with others out there. This book is definitely not an exhaustive tomb on blood sugar or diabetes, or even low-carb diets. It is not long enough nor researched enough to be that. I am sure there are others that do a better job on the science. But it is a nice personal story, and because of the human touch element it helped motivate me to pay attention to blood sugar levels, and in that respect this is a one-of-a-kind book.
