Engrossing stories about the Florida few know

The book is a collection of historical antidotes about the Panhandle - an area of Florida few, including natives, know. Ms. Jahoda retells folk tales in a manner that puts you right in that place and time. Especially interesting for me (I lived in Tallahassee for several years) are the stories about Dr. Gourie's ice machine - the man who invented refrigeration. This is a classic and I thought long out of print.
