Orlando the Marmalade Cat: A Seaside Holiday

Thanks so much. It arrived in fine shape. For anyone who doesn't know about Orlando the Marmalade Cat, the stories hearken back to a different era, post WWII Britain. The stories are charming and well drawn with plenty in each book for young and old to enjoy. The characters in the book are so kind and courteous to one another. For example, in A Seaside Holiday, Vulcan the horse invites the cats to come with him, his wife, and his foal to Owlbarrow-on-Sea. Vulcan promises that there is plenty of room for everyone on an abandoned ship. Readers will fall in love with all the cozy, family details in the book, and many adventures follow including a ship wreck where Orlando volunteers to lead the rescue. For anyone who loves animals this is a must-buy, particularly if you have grandchildren around. I can remember reading this one to my grandmother many years ago. It helped make our own holiday celebration complete.

childhood revisited

This book was a childhood favourite of mine and my brothers. He is about to turn 40 and I am buying him the hardcover to replace our long lost edition. Great to see the original illustrations.

A charming tale for young animal lovers

In this charming book Orlando and his family travel to the seaside to escape the sweltering heat. They explore the town, play on the beach and have adventures with kites and bathing suits. While exploring the tidepools for possible mermaids they happen upon a shipwreck and Orlando bravely rescues an African queen and her people. The illustrations are wonderfully old fashioned and quirky little touches abound. Animals are especially well drawn, each having a great deal of personality and physical expression. Perfect books for animal loving young readers.
