Among the fine antiques Jenny Blake finds in the curiosity shop she inherits from her uncle in 1899 is a beautiful bottle, home to a genie who falls a little short of fulfilling her wish for the perfect man.
ONE WISH is charming Americana with a twist, and that twist is Ninj, the genie in the bottle. Each time he showed up in the story, attempting his inept magic, I laughed until the tears flowed.

In 1899 Washington DC, country bumpkin Jenny Blake inherits a curiosity shop and two apartments from her now deceased uncle, whom she never met in her life. Her sole tenant is Professor Miller Holbrook, who has a lot of problems relating to women. That is okay with Jenny, who plans to stay single after watching how her own father deserted his family. Into the mix comes Ninj, a jinni imprisoned for several centuries until Jenny frees him. He informs his new mistress that he is her loyal slave until he can find her the love of a lifetime. Once completing that task, he will be able to retire to jinni heaven. However, Jenny does not want a man of her dreams and Ninj's selection, Miller, does not want a woman for that matter. If readers could have ONE WISH for a lighthearted historical romp, they would ask for C.J. Card's fun to read novel. The story line is crisp and has elements of intrigue. The lead protagonists are a beautiful couple and Ninj will leave you believing in the power of otherworldly beings. Ms. Card scribes a full house with her latest historical romance. Harriet Klausner
