One Ted Falls Out of Bed

So many picture books go up to ten, but not many take the time to craft a peak in the center of the book, then slowly coast back down to a quiet and relaxing ending. This one does. And I'm so glad, because while there are other good bedtime counting books (Ten, Nine, Eight by Molly Bang comes to mind) this lets the excitement happen in the midst of the story, leaving time for a slow relax into the mindest of sleep once the story is finished. I'm also quite fond of the author's conviction that kids don't need to be beaten over the head with numerals or overly contrived sets of items in order to get the concept.

Another hit by Donaldson- and, by the way, in UK English, doll DOES rhyme with troll. Ms Donaldson is from England.

This book is good but not great, my son likes to read it occasionally. i agree though, not as good as the gruffalo and her other books.
