I'm writing this from memory, but I've read it enough times to remember the high points. This is not a time travel story, but it does feature allusions to an ancestor of the woman who lives in an antebellum house in the South. She reads her ancestor's journal about a stranger who was wounded in the Civil War who became the love of her life. The descendant, too, encounters an injured man on her estate. She nurses him back to health, they fall in love and live happily ever after. Instead of being a casualty of war, the modern day hero is investigating drug smuggling which may be occurring on her estate. There are a few twists to this story, so I will resist saying more and spoiling the surprises. It's wonderful: Karen Keast's usual steamy, emotional romance. Highly recommended. Karen Keast also wrote the stellar stories "A Tender Silence" and "The Surprise of His Life," which are also Silhouette Special Edition books. Keast is the pen name of Sandra Canfield, who has NOT ONE real dud among any of her books. Canfield's best, though, are among her "Calloway Corners" tales, and also "Night Into Day," "Tigers by Night," "Voices on the Wind" and "Cherish this Moment."
