One Dead Preacher A David Price Mystery: 20th Anniversary Edition

You can imagine how messy the situation gets when her husband ends up dead and instead of cooling things down it makes it that much hotter.Mr. Lindsay has the ability to tell a story that will keep your attention until you find out exactly how it all fits together. I was pleasantly surprised with the twists and turns that were throughout the book and I honestly couldn't figure who did what until it was time for me to. One Dead Preacher is the best mystery that I have read since Walter Mosley's Easy Rawlins series. David Price is to Easy Rawlins as Ricky is to Mouse and they explode on these pages. David Price has definitely entered into my top three favorite security/private detectives along with Easy Rawlins, and Valerie Wilson Wesley's Tamara Hayle. There was something in the title of this book that caught my attention. David is asked to provide protection for his best friend's sister-in-law, whose name is Sugar. ( I don't think I need to say anything else about her) Anyway, Sugar is a Minister's wife with a very shaddy past. It dind of reminds you of the Nation of Islam and the Catholic church rolled into one. Then watch out...the devil is about to break loose. The characters are funny and smart and Linday remembers to include just enough sex-appeal but not too much that it takes away from the suspense. This story was funny, and full of action. It was really a quick read but you will not want it to end, which will shock you in more than one way. In the words of David's friend Rick, "Look-a-here"...you must read this novel. Tony kept me guessing until the end, which is good becaue I usually figuire out the twist well before it happens. ODP is fast paced and full of surprises; I cried at the end. I could not put this down, I had to finish it today. Order it now!

Lindsay has captured the essence of the mystery genre with a hard-edged, fast-paced story in a Black, urban setting. What passes for romance is a little weird, but perhaps that's the way it is from the male point of view. The sex is sizzling hot, though. I've recommended it to all my reading friends--and bought it for several.

For those of you waiting on the next Walter Mosley Mystery, or a reprint of one of Chester Himes' Crime Stories, this is the book to read. I was luck enough to read an advance copy of the book. This brother is bridging the gap between commercial and literary fiction. It's a murder mystery, but his writing touches on humor, drama, action, suspense, the whole nine. It's a fast paced story, I read it in one night. And just because it's a mystery doesn't mean it's devoid of messages. check out the subtle references to current black leadership. It's a great debut piece of fiction. Kudos!
