Renowned NetWare consultants Jeffrey Hughes and Blair Thomas have compiled the master NetWare 5 reference -- Novell's Guide to NetWare? 5 Networks . With more than 1,500 pages of NetWare 5 coverage, Novell's Guide to NetWare 5 Networks touches all the bases including Pure IP, Novell Directory Services?, Novell Distributed Print Services(tm), NetWare 4.11 migration, Z.E.N.works(tm), and Netscape FastTrack Server? for NetWare. Hughes and Thomas, both of whom are master CNEs and Senior Consultants for Novell Consulting Services, also explain how to implement a security infrastructure using NICI, configure your NetWare clients, tune the NetWare 5 operating system, design an effective NDS(tm) tree, and troubleshoot partition operations. Three CD-ROMs accompany Novell's Guide to NetWare 5 Networks with complete NetWare 5 online documentation, a Visio? Solution Pack for NDS, and a three-user version of NetWare 5.
I had the chance to meet the authors at Brainshare 99, they were kind enough to autograph the book. In various installations this book has helped alot!! Especially with the new backup system Novell has implemented with Netware 5. Easy reading, not overly technical..
Good book for CNE's

Hughes and Thomas basically accomplish their stated goal "...you will learn basic to complex concepts and rules on the aspects of NetWare 5"(p.xii). As expected from these authors, there's a heavy emphasis on NDS design and implementation. I wanted more comprehensive coverage of Z.E.N., FastTrack web server, and setting up NDPS. This is not an administrator's handbook, nor a test-prep. But if you're a CNA/CNE looking for a reliable, comprehensive overview of NetWare 5, this is it.
Great reference for CNEs and CNA out there

Good book but lacks detailed info on Netscape Fast track web server. The converage on NDS is excellent but needed more info on NDPS and Zenworks
