Cuts out a lot of nonsense found in normal college textbooks. Written all in french and not for the beginning student but is geared toward the native english speaker. Won't coddle you. The table of context in the back is very easy to use and i've never had even a little trouble finding what I want. I'm in my fourth semester of french in college and carry the book with my text book, my dictionary and a french novel or two with me around school all day. It makes for interesting light reading and is very helpful in my studies. Recommend it to any student.
Great review for French Teachers!

I use this book when presenting grammar to all levels of my students. The examples are made for adults, so the teacher needs to plan to change some of the examples given to meet the maturity of his / her students. I used this as a text book at the Sorbonne, as it clearly explained French grammar and verbs. My students have commented that they understand the way the book (through me) explains grammar rules. Because it's necessary to explicitly teach grammar, but then quickly move into natural uses of the language, it is necessary to either find the workbooks that go along with this book or to make your own worksheets to go with the grammar. That, or have students create dialogues in which the points are used that they will then act out. This is a great resource.
Great Grammar Book!

If you are looking for a comprehensive grammar book in French this is the book for you! This is a great French grammar book that was designed specifically for French as a Foreign Language (Francais Langue Etrangere) at the second year level for courses at the Sorbonne. As a teacher and perpetual student of French, I like the clear explanations and the bulleted format. I also enjoy the hints of things to avoid as well as text boxes that explain word choice problems that often plague the non-native speaker. While this text does not have any English, I think that most learners beyond Second Year in High School would have few problems using it. The only downfall that I have found is that there is no table of contents, which means you may have to sift through to find what you need, although the index is quite thorough. Bonne lecture!
