Not Seperate, Not Equal

This Multicultural book is a great book if you don't understand why Black Americans were made fun of. I Iiked this book because it lets you see why you should be nice people that you don't like or you think they dress poorly or you don't like them because their skin color is different from yours. If you're looking for a book on prejudice, then you should read, Brenda Wilkensons, Not Separate, Not Equal. Some of the Black American students were getting mad because other white people were making fun of them. So they went to their school office and told the teachers what had happened. This is a multicultural book because it talks about Prejudice, Black Americans, and people being made fun of.

To be Equal or Not to be Equal...That is the Question.

Not Separate, Not Equal is a good book for grades 7+. It is a book about a girl who goes through tough times in her life because she's black. The book includes action and drama that the girl faces through out years of racism and cruelity against African Americans. The story that gave the most impact on me was when the girl was being chased by two vicious dogs that were unleashed by a white owner whom happened to dislike blacks. The dogs had chased her down and ripped her clothes and skin. This book also taught me to respect black people even more than I do now because in the book it mentioned people at her school (which was practically an "All White School") making fun of her and saying their rude on-going commentaries towards her about her being different and dirty because she was black. This book is a very touching book too because there is one white person who is halp black but has white skin and her friends don't know it. That friend treats the black girl no different than she would her other friends and because it made her friends mad just for hanging out with her, the half black girl left all of her friends just to stay and stick up for the black girl. I would rate this story four stars because it is one of the best books i've ever read but not the first but it is certainly #2 on my list.

Not Seperate, Not Equal

I rate my book four stars. I liked it a lot. It taught me so much about how it must have been for African Americans. It also taught me not to be cruel to others. I have never read a book about racism before. I think this book is a really good book to teach about racism. I also think this book will be the best book I read about this subject. One thing that I really liked about this book is how the author explained things. She was very specific about things so you wouldn't get confused. She also put a lot of detail into this book. One thing that I didn't like about this book is how cruel the people were against blacks. You would never think people could be so cruel just because of someone's color of skin. I know this book took place a long time ago but its just unbelievable how they were treated. But back then it was how people acted. You really get the sense on how blacks felt and were treated. I can't compare this book to any other book I've read except for one, which is Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry. That book also talks and shows how different colored people were treated but Not Separate, Not Equal explains so much more. This book is one of the best books I've ever read.
