Author Stephen Arno tells, in an easy, informative fashion, how each of the species of trees grows and adapts to its particular environment, and how to identify the tree by its characteristic shape and size, by its needles or leaves, cones or seeds. Far more than a catalog of trees, Arno's text is sprinkled with interesting facts and asides demonstrating how essential trees are both to wildlife and human life in the Northwest.
I really enjoyed this book but only wished there was a little more artful depictions of some of the distinguishing factors of trees.
