Nonviolence at its core practicality.

I have to say that this is a magnificent book. The collection of interrelated essays is an important achievement in a frequently underrated genre of sociopolitical history. The chapters reflect on Mohandas Gandhi, Leo Tolstoy, their similarities and philosophies of nonviolent action, on historical bias, and the potential future of civil disobediance/nonviolent struggle. The contributing writers are skillful and clear, enjoyable to read and the topics are profoundly explored. Each chapter contains footnotes that point to excellent additional readings and corresponding authors/topics. This book highlights the fearlessness, strength and moral value of nonviolent struggle, extrapolates its ideas, distinguishes it from mere pacifism, explores why it is efficacious and why it need be further implemeted in the future rather than be ignored as it so often has been by our stubborn historians. I give this tome a solid 4.7 stars.
