Interesting series.

I love Historical Fiction. I simply want more from this series and it's author. More, as in historical details, character building and maybe committment. Atmosphere! I feel almost as if Ms. Herriman is not fully committed to this series yet or her characters. One minute Celia is a smart, strong, independent woman an anomaly for the era. Next she is recklessly taking chances and is almost naive to the point of annoyance. How can we walk into a saloon and receive no information on the surroundings? No sensory perceptions. Silver mining in Nevada but no details when it is obvious from early on it is an intrinsic part of the story. This storyline was intriguing and could have been so much more(that word again!). Personal details and histories would of made the story line less disjointed. I will be reading the next installment of this series, oddly for the secondary cast at the moment. Owen, Addie, Barbara and Taylor I find more real than Celia or Nick. Easier to like. I'm hoping to feel like I am strolling the streets of San Francisco and experiencing all that characters do. Drop us into the late 19th century of San Francisco history and intrigue. As stated earlier, I want more.

I Didn't Like It

This book reminded me of Victoria Thompson's Gaslight Series, but it was not nearly as well written or exciting. The characters seemed very wooden & the Plot was not very clever. Disappointing!
