Black Lace version of 'The Maltese Falcon'

This action packed adventure with plot twists and turns sure hits the spot. The story deals with 30 year old Kate, a UK insurance adjuster, who, after having a harrowing experience during a Crete vacation decides to chuck it all and take off for the Southern mountains of France with Raul whom she 'bumped into' on the street. The book was certainly written by a woman who lovers her men, and thats just it, the book is full of men men men and the only other females written into the story are just fillers or inconveniences. Actually that is why I rated it as 5 stars since certainly I am sure there are a lot of readers out there that may not be into the more 'varied' and 'kinkier' erotic scenes that I would normaly yearn for. I believe that this is one of the first Black Lace series of books, from Virigin Publishing, that solidifies the strong woman ... who takes what she wants when she wants it... without the more 'modern politically correctness' of introspection or self recrimination of just having had 'great sex et. al.' on the front steps of your townhouse. If you are into straight vanilla flavoured sex and action packed thrillers than this book is for you .....

Borrowed plot twists?

I bought this bok on the strength of the previous reader review and I don't regret it. It was an enjoyable read, well- and intelligently written. However, those of us old enough to be familiar with an earlier genre of book, the romantic suspense novel, will recognize the influence of, perhaps even reliance on, the novels of Mary Stewart, who wrote several excellent books, mostly in the 1950's and 1960's. In particular, the setting in the Pyrenees harks strongly back to "Thunder on the Right." Then, when the action moves to Albania, the landscape, character types, and a final plot twist (the discovery of the statues) come right out of Stewart's "My Brother Michael." I don't know if this is an homage to Stewart, but it seemed uncomfortably close to what I have to call the original. When you're looking for something other than erotica, I strongly suggest you seek out a copy of "My Brother Michael," with its powerful sense of place, beautiful descriptions, and well-drawn characters. Meanwhile, "No Lady" captures a little of that, and has overt sex scenes to boot.

The Original And Still (One Of) The Best

30 year old insurance assessor, Kate, starts to question her safe but boring life after she is held at gun point by an escaping criminal, whom she later sleeps with. She then proves that she is definitely no lady when she goes with the wildly erotic Raoul and his four friends to the isolated Maison du Lac in the Pyrenees. But Kate quickly discovers that none of the new men in her life is quite who he seems to be.No Lady was one of the first books published under the Black Lace imprint, and it is good to see it back in print. Although less sophisticated than later entries in the imprint (by which I mean:- the sex is less varied), Saskia Hope has written a gripping erotic novel that keeps you engaged to the very end.Unfortunately, the author gets so caught up with the plot that the sex sometimes suffers. Although there is a constant sexual atmosphere to the book, the actual set-piece scenes don't have as much variety has perhaps they could. I know that if I was stuck up a mountain with 5 gorgeous men I could probably think of a few interesting ways to pass the time. But don't let my few negative comments put you off. This is a first-rate sexy adventure, which I have read several times since it was first published in 1993.
