No Easy Way Out by Paula Detmer Riggs (Large Print Silhouette Sensation)

I have to disagree with the previous reviewer - I did read the entire book, and did not find it to be a waste of time. The characters in this story are difficult to love, yes ... the hero has an unsavory past which he has kept hidden from everyone. He committed crimes for which he has never been punished ... except by himself. He has kept himself detached from everyone in this small town for the last nine years ... until Arden comes to town. She's a typical ex-big-city rich man's daughter ... and a reporter to boot. She's trying to make a go of the local paper which she just purchased while raising her daughter alone. When she unexpectedly meets up with the hero she gets this nagging feeling that they've met somewhere before ... but she just can't place it. Despite Dylan's best intentions, something about Arden draws him ... and annoys him as well, since as a nosy reporter is the last person he'd ever want to be involved with given the secrets he carries. But as in the best of love stories, their passion cannot be denied ... I have to say I liked this book, even if I didn't admire the ethics of the hero. In the end, he does finally do the right thing and face up to his past and pay the price for the crimes he committed. This is not your typical Silhouette - there is no light-hearted silliness in this book. Just well-crafted characters dealing with difficult all-too-human situations. I give it four stars, and believe you'll find it worth the time. Description from the book back cover: His bedside manner ... When a case of appendicitis brought journalist Arden Crawford under the care of Dr. Dylan Kincade, she thought she'd died and gone to heaven. But there was something very familiar about this handsome man's deep blue eyes and sexy smile. Arden knew that if she thought long and hard, she would remember something ... something about a trial ... All work and no play was making eligible bachelor Dylan Kincade a boring man - until Arden Crawford and her daughter had him wanting more. For the first time in years, he was ready to risk getting close to someone. He'd always known he couldn't keep his past hidden forever. But in revealing his secret, would he lose everything ... again?
