The book that got me practising instead of reading
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 15 years ago
Having read "Frogs into Princes", "Introduction to NLP" and "Coaching with NLP", I've fastened on this book to take me beyond the theory and help me practice NLP for the first time. Previously, I understood modalities and had difficulty picking out the words. I knew that there the eyes travelled in different directions and quickly forgot which. I'm now 2/3 of the way through and can now pick up differences in people's voice patterns, hand movements and breathing, which has helped me to notice the different words in use too. The authors provide practical hints and tips: suggestions for places to practice, warnings against starting with important conversations and meetings, and example after example of the kinds of patterns to look or listen out for. The book calls back to previous chapters and forward to chapters yet to come, allowing me to build up a map of what I'm learning and quickly revise what I've already learnt. Perhaps it has helped that I knew a little NLP first. Even so, this is a wonderful companion guide. Most people who have given it 1* both in the US and UK are focused on its historical inaccuracies, which may be fair, but don't make the book less effective.
