Definitely must be read in the proper order to enjoy

I want to start by telling you what order to read these books in. The Winter family saga begins in a short story told in the book "On the Edge", followed by "Cold Ridge." The next is "Night's Landing", then "The Rapids" and finally "Dark Sky." If you read the books out of order, you are less likely to want to go back to read what the author keeps reiterating throughout the series. As far as Night's Landing goes, it was a fairly enjoyable read. More so for the continuing story of the Winter family, than any heavy romance or hold you to the edge of your seat suspense. The characters were likable and the story line moved along quickly. I was a little reluctant wanting to read any of these books having read the reviews, but wasn't disappointed entirely. "Night's Landing" is a quick read and fairly easy to follow if you are familiar with the other stories. There are a lot of characters, many returning from previous novels, that can be confusing for some, but not difficult to figure out as the book reads on. Is it worth the money? As part of the series, yes. Alone, no.

EXCITING, THRILLING, ROMANTIC

Ms. Neggers has once again proved she is at the top of her game with Night's Landing. U.S. Marshall Nate Winter's is a down to earth hero who will do what it takes to get the truth even if it means breaking the rules (my kind of man). Sarah Dunnemore is his partner's sister with close ties to the current U.S. President and his family. Nate and Sarah meet when both Nate and Sarah's brother Rob are shot by a sniper. What follows is a thrilling, suspenseful, romantic story. Ms. Neggers insightful characters, political savy and interaction between Nate and Sarah gives the reader one great read. I highly recommend this book.

exhilarating police procedural romance

Following an overkill press conference of the joint fugitive task force, US Marshals Rob Dunnemore and Nate Winter are enjoying a walk in Central Park when a sniper shoots both law enforcement officials with the former critically hurt. While Nate struggles to keep his partner alive and locate the killer, Rob's sister historical archaeologist Sarah Dunnemore is taking a slight breather after completing her Poe family project with the documentary that goes back to the roots in Scotland. When Sarah learns that her twin is injured, she leaves her home in Night's Landing, Tennessee to be at her side in a Manhattan hospital. There she meets by the rules Nate, who is obsessed with finding the assassin who escaped the park. Though out of character, he is very attracted to his partner's sibling but, Nate believes she has insider information involving her Tennessee neighbor and sometime resident, the President of the United States that ties back to his investigation. He will not allow even the woman he loves to escape his scrutiny whether she is in Night's Landing, New York City or some remote historical site for she is the key to unraveling who paid the killer.NIGHT'S LANDING is an exhilarating police procedural romance with political elements that raise the tension, but also distracts from the prime two subplots of searching for a killer and of course the love story. Carla Neggers provides terrific counterpoints whether it is locations or just looking at tulips when blood abruptly flows. The lead couple is a delight as hardboiled Nate seems like Sam Spade refusing to let even love from stopping him from obtaining the truth.Harriet Klausner

Lots of characters.

Historical Archaeologist Sarah Dunnemore returns from Scotland to her family home in Night's Landing, Tennessee, expecting to relax a bit before deciding what to do next with her career. Just as she settles in, Sarah receives a phone call that alters her life. Her twin brother, Deputy U.S. Marshal Rob Dunnemore, has just been shot by a sniper in Central Park. Rob's partner and friend, Nate Winter, was also shot at the time but his wound is minor and he is released from the hospital quickly. Sarah leaves her family home in the care of Ethan, the handyman, and rushes to New York. There she meets another deputy U.S. Marshal, Juliet Longstreet, who used to date Rob. Juliet is Sarah's constant escort while in N.Y. Then there is Nate. Nate believes the FBI investigators have the wrong suspect, who is conveniently dead, as the sniper. Rob convinces Sarah to return to Night's Landing. However, she finds a letter from Rob's would-be killer and Nate sprints to her side. Nate is determined to locate who the sniper really is and to protect Sarah. There are plenty of questions but few answers. Who is the sniper? Will he try again to kill Rob? Will he go after Sarah next? Was the shooting related to the Dunnemore's close friendship with U.S. President John Wesley Poe? And most importantly, could Nate open up to Sarah and take a chance on their growing attraction? **** There are several other characters and for awhile I was overwhelmed with figuring out who everyone was and how they figured into the story. So if you do not like books that have several things going on at once and lots of characters to keep up with, pass on this one. However, if you want a suspenseful story that tests your crime solving wits, this book is for you! Here is a brisk who-dunnit story that will keep you reading until the very end! **** Reviewed by Detra Fitch of Huntress Reviews.
