Me, Read a Romance Novel??? -- Heck Yeah!!!

A co-worker of mine told me about Beverly Jenkins last year and thought -- what?! I don't read romance novels! Give me a good murder/mystery/non-fiction and I'm good to go. Well, she wouldn't let it go and said that I just HAD to read one of Ms. Jenkins books and I would be hooked. I didn't believe her, but to shut her up, I bought Night Song since it was the first book. When I took a looked at the cover, I just shook my head. Who reads this cheesy crap?! After finishing this book in only a few days, I was totally hooked! The story of Cara and Chase is well written and you get a little bit if history in the mix. And the love scenes -- Whoa! I didn't expect that! The best part of all is that although this is fiction, we get a chance to read about African-Americans living normal lives back in the 1800's. Of course slavery was going on and nobody can forget about that, but then again there were free blacks also. They were living, working, loving, etc. Cara is a career woman who has gone to college and isn't looking to settle down. Chase is a buffalo soldier just out to flirt with Cara to pass the time. They never expected to end up so much in love. Since reading this book back in December, I've read nine of Ms. Jenkins other boooks and I'm not stopping until I've read them all. Night Song is my favorite because it was the first, but Indigo is a close second.

A must read

Night Song is a book you can read over and over again and never tire of it. You feel all the emotion that the author wanted to convey to the readers. She uses fact and fiction to keep the reader reading more and more.

Historical Black Romance At Its Best!

Regardless of your race, if you like romance novels, you'll love Beverly Jenkins...I was introduced to Beverly Jenkins in 1996! I'd purchased Vivid and Night Song together because of the beautiful people on the cover. But, I was reluctant to dive in because I wasn't sure what to expect. Well after reading those 2 back to back, I was hooked. Every trip to the book store since, leads me to the romance section in search of a new Beverly Jenkins release. Since that time in 1996, I've purchased and read Indigo, Topaz and Through The Storm...Beverly Jenkins is the queen of historical black romance! I can't wait to get my hands on her latest, "The Taming Of Jesse Rose" *****(5 stars!)

Deep, turbulent love story, with many ghosts....

I was riveted from the get-go, drawn into the romantic legends of our "Buffalo soldiers", the fate of our first teachers and this hot-cold, rocky romance. How they came to marry was chilling, and it was torturous as Chase and Cara worked through the demons in their relationship and the outside forces as well (I even read it with my fingers crossed!!!). It is a wonderful first novel, and IT'S ABOUT TIME we see some strong SISTERS in romances for a change. Thank you Beverly, for watering that dry wasteland in the historical department!!! Something wonderful...

This book was my introduction to a wonderful writer of romance novels.I had never seen a hisotical romance novel involving African Americans so I was intrigued. I picked the book up at a used bookstore and it sat on my shelf for over a month because I was reading some other books at the time. When I finally got around to reading it I was captivated. It was informative, sexy as all get out, and one of the best books I've read in quite a while!! Ms. Jenkins' story should appeal to all women not just those of color as I am. As an African American woman I am happy to find and author such as Ms. Jenkins. She holds her own with the other writers of this genre and delivers a good, heartwarming story of love and it's rewards. If you get the chance, pick it up. It's well worth your time
