Never Let You Go

Never Let You Go is about a single mom, Lexi, and her nine year old daughter, Molly - in one week their world goes from a struggle to a survival situation. Lexi's husband reappears after many years. An old friend also appears and turns Lexi's life upside down. Lexi also makes a new friend in Angelo. We are introduced to Lexi's mother and father. Never Let You Go is set in a small town, don't let a small town setting bother you - there is plenty of going ons in Craig's Nest. Lexi works two jobs to make ends meet for her and Molly. Strange things slowly start to happen at the beginning of the story and I feel that this strange doings help to grab the reader right away. Each chapter was more suspenseful than the last. I was rooting for Lexi and her family through the entire story. This was the first time I read a Christian inspired story and was thoroughly entertained by the book. This book had a very good message about good vs evil. After reading this book, more than likely you will stop and think about your life. I highly recommend this book to other readers, this book delivers a very powerful message. I will be reading Erin Healy's other books in the near future. Erin Healy's book 'Never Let You Go' was excellent, and very reminiscent of Frank Peretti's fiction. Milder, though. While Peretti would keep me from falling to sleep at night, Healy's book was frightening in places, but not unbearably so. Demons and angels are a recipe for a good read, but only when evil loses, and this book was no exception. I like to read books that give good and evil actual human bodies. To visualize the unseen world is appealing, and Healy depicts that well. In this story, the main character, Lexi, is haunted by situations from her past that stole her husband from her, and paved the way for her sister's death. Lexi ends up being tormented by a couple of men (a term I use loosely), and any normal person would crack under the pressure. Fortunately in my experience, life is never quite as suspenseful as fiction writers would have us believe. Bravo, Ms. Healy. More please. Erin Healy has written two books with Ted Dekker: Kiss and Burn. I figured this first solo novel by her would be similar in style, and it is. I was looking forward to reading it, and dove into it as soon as it came in the mail. Some things were a bit hard to follow at the start of the book, but it improved later in the book. I think the author did a great job on her first solo novel, and look forward to reading more by her. The story isn't necessarily a happy one, but the plot was really good, and you find yourself really identifying with the characters, and there was a definite Christian message in the book, along with plenrty of suspense. A recommended read.

Wow. This is a wonderful book if you like supernatural suspense with a little spiritual warfare too. I read it in one night. It is not pleasant happy feel good but still a well written book and good for its genre. The characters and plot are well developed and held my attention from page one. It was a little scary in parts but I love the ending. The main themes are grace and forgiveness. You might not want to read it at night like I did. lol Recommended. :)

Though angry and bitter, Lexi managed to survive and provide a meager existence for her cherished daughter, Molly. She has one week to decide and no one to trust. I was a bit surprised by Never Let You Go. I had read the two books Healy co-wrote with Dekker, but still wasn't sure what to expect. I had a feeling the style would be pretty similar, which turned out to be correct, but wasn't sure about the feel and content. I was concerned it might be a bit more idealist and happy. Well, I was wrong. It's a wonderfully brooding, melancholy story, which digs into our dark, hidden, self-righteous hearts and brings to light those things that we'd rather not see. It offers glimpses of hope and reminds us that the forgiveness extended to us should be freely given to others. A truly terrific story that is both haunting and beautiful. I'm a fan of flawed characters. They have a tendency to make a book feel more alive and are usually much more enjoyable to read. In Never Let You Go, the main characters involved, Lexi, Grant, Alice, and Norm, are realistically flawed. They might have made some huge mistakes, but the mistakes are easy to accept and understand. By the end of the book, even the murderer, Norm, became someone the reader could relate to and sympathize with. Whether it was a glimpse at our own souls or a reminder of the chain of actions and consequences, each person brought a unique perspective to the story. These are exceptionally strong characters, marvelously created and used to bring the story to life. I struggled with the balance of details in this book. The first part of Never Let You Go was a bit slow due to the excess of mundane description. However, there were a couple of section that were baffling in their lack of detail. Towards the end, the level of detail was just right and the story flowed infinitely better. There were some great points in this story. I particularly enjoyed how Healy took the self-pity that Lexi thrived on and forced her to take responsibility for her part in the disasters that occurred in her life. It was a refreshing approach that increased the impact of the overall story. Not forgotten were themes of love, forgiveness, and hope. All came together and created a beautiful picture of God's grace and its daily effects on our lives. Healy did a wonderful job of creating a dark environment without blood, gore, or true horror.
