These tips can really work

Honest people or people who really try to be honest sometimes have a difficult time detecting lies and deception. We tend to believe someone's self-assessment, their claims of achievement, their resumes, etc. We take it all at face-value because we wouldn't make this stuff up, why would anybody - they might get caught! Well, they wouldn't have been caught by me before, but they will now! I bought this audio book to listen to because I was tired of believing people's lies, but I didn't want to become a paranoid employer who didn't trust anyone I hadn't known for 20 years or more. That would lead to missed opportunities with the many honest people in the world. This book helps you to detect lies, but also to make good decisions about what to do when you suspect someone of lying. All based on the psychological study of human nature, this will provide people with great tools to protect themselves from lies and perpetrating liars. Personally, I have noticed that people who don't want me to find out certain things will begin doing a kind of "dance" which include "dance moves" which resemble the liars' techniques described in this audio book. This dance analogy represents my somewhat imaginative perception of things, but I include it to illustrate how this book can enlighten the reader and provide a framework for evaluating the truth value of statements and assertion people make. As you may have guessed, I cannot say enough good things about this book.

You Have to be a Wolf to Catch a Wolf

As with all of David Lieberman's works, "Never Be Lied To Again" contains a genuine element of practicality that makes it highly worth reading. While the strategies contained in this book may not "break" a criminal mastermind during police interrogation, I believe that they can be very effective (if used correctly) when dealing with a person of average intelligence. Anyone even vaguely familiar with the techniques of interview and interrogation will see many familiar elements in the methods advocated by Lieberman to use against your target. One of the central points that the author makes is that in order to get someone to tell you the truth, you must create an incentive for them to do so. That way, they feel that it is permissible to divulge information which is actually in their best interests to keep hidden. Frequently, this involves you becoming a liar in order to catch a liar. Unfortunate but necessary. Also noteworthy is the fact that this is a great book for dishonest people to read because it will teach you a lot about strategies that may be used against you in the future... if they haven't already. As a keen student of human nature, this is one of those useful guides that will stay in my library as a reference tool for years to come.

Liar, Liar now I know!

Another great book from the author that I have come to consider one of the most enlightened professionals in the field of human behavior. Dr. David J. Lieberman, Ph.D. has written several books that have been translated into several languages and are consistently best sellers because he truly understands the psychological principles that affect us. Yet he has an easy writing style that is easy to follow and easy to understand. This is a stellar book for those wishing to understand deception and how to uncover the truth. Like all books of this type it provides a wealth of information but you have to apply this information. I decided to try practicing by using some of the techniques on the television game show "To tell the truth". While this is not the best situation because the camera often leaves the contestants and it would be better to be able to view them all at all times, it is still a good place to practice. Did it work? Well, at the beginning I was getting the right person about one third of the time. A week later I was finding out who was lying ninety percent of the time! Now that is an excellent improvement!Okay, detecting when you are being lied to is one thing. Finding out the truth can be another. Dr. Lieberman has received some criticism for this section of the book. It seems that many people have problems with some of the techniques. That is not to say that they are ineffective, they work well. Some people have problems with such things as "leading questions" or feel that you are being deceptive when you ask an open-ended question. What parent has not enjoyed the surprises that come forth after telling their child "I know what you did and it will go easier on you if you just confess now". Of course the child is wondering what thing that the parent knows about because they want to confess to the thing they know about and get a lesser punishment. But they don't want to confess to things the parent doesn't know about. To have a problem with doing the same thing puts one in the position of having to defend the idea that something that is wrong to do with adults is okay with children because they are somehow less deserving of respect. Or, perhaps, an adult who is lying to you is more deserving of respect than a child who is being honest with you. Not a position that I would want to be in.Well, if you still have a problem with some of the techniques of getting to the truth then you can just try confronting them with the lies that you have uncovered. Remember that I successfully moved my ability to detect lies from one third to ninety percent just by using the information and not interacting with the person on the television at all. All I had to do was watch them and listen to what they said.I thought that it was great that he also included a chapter on being our own worst enemy... when we lie to ourselves. In summary, it is a highly recommended book and very useful. It details why you should suspect lying in various

Bravo Dr. Lieberman.

For the life of me I do not understand a reviewer's criticism of Never Be Lied to Again. I know people in law enforcement who use the techniques in this book and are very grateful for them. Some of the critics of this system say that it is wrong to use deception to get at the truth. (As Dr. Lieberman suggests is sometimes necessary). Well I live in the real world and if these techniques help to keep a rapist or a child abuser off the streets, then it has done its job. This book is effective and greatly needed. If the methods offend you and you don't care that your spouse is cheating on you or your employees are ripping you off, then don't read the book. But on behalf of us in the real world, thank you Dr. Lieberman.
