Good Overview of a Naturalistic Setup

This book gives great information on how to set up and maintain naturalistic enclosures for many herp species. It provides recommended plants and substrates to use for different habitats and then also gives common problems you may encounter with the plant species you may have used and how to best maintain them. It also gives many good ideas on various decor one can use for different herp species. Overall a nice book to have when setting up a new terrarium and also as a reference when problems are encountered.

An awesome book for creaing the most natural habitat possible for your pet

If you want to try creating a beautiful biome for your pet herp, this is the book for you. There is so much info packed into this little volume, and the author covers all aspects from enclosure type to appropriate rocks for particular habitats to plants and watering. He also covers the basics of about six different types of biomes with great tips for keeping your terrarium a living, breathing microcosm. My goal is to build the most natural habitat for my future pet, and this book contained the most useful information to help me accomplish my goal.

Don't judge a book by it's cover

I was a bit disappointed when I received this book due to its very small size. The price definitely did not reflect what I was expecting. However upon opening and reading the book, I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of information it contained. While it did not contain all the information I needed, it is definitely a good starter guide for creating a vivarium. It really works well for me because I have a number of different habitats in my home, but if you are looking for something really specific for one or two animals, you may want to look for something geared more toward your animal. Again a great started guide.

Creating your own little rainforest!

If you are interested in small amphibian life, this book helps you create the ideal habitat that is not only for looks, but functions as a true biotope keeping itself clean using natural bacteria filtration. A natural environment allows you to enjoy your pets, observing behaviors. Quality of life and lifespan are assured in a natural biotope and a quality environment increases the chances that they will breed in captivity! This book will help you create the rainforest of your dreams!

Best that I've ever found.

I'll be brief: I recently bought and read this book because I am building a new, elaborate terrarium. As a reference, this book is the best I've ever encountered. As a read-able book, it's also top notch. You would not think that moss could be interesting, but this book makes it so. Don't waste your money on books by Bartlett or Walls (anyone who reads herp books will know those guys know their stuff, but not like this!). If you're going to buy a terrarium book (discusses deserts, jungles, watery environs, etc. from beginner level to VERY advanced tricks and tactics), make this the one!!! You will NOT be disappointed.
