Book Overview

Scandinavians of the Viking Age answered the mysteries of life in their myths and legends. Folklorist Helene Adeline Guerber brings to life the gods and goddesses, giants and dwarves, and warriors and monsters of these tales in Myths of the Norsemen. Ranging from the comic to the tragic, the myths tell of passion, love, friendship, pride, courage, and betrayal.

Satisfied!

The book that I purchased was in exceptional condition. There were no quality issues or concerns. It was also delivered to me within days.

So far so good

I have enjoyed this book thus far. The myths of the Norsemen are heavily coated in symbolism as are all myths. I would recommend anyone interested in this subject matter to check out Wagner's "Ring Cycle" opera as it deals entirerly with Norse and Germanic mythology.

An easy to read version of the eddas and sagas

Myths of the Norsemen by H A Guerber is a good book for those who are sometimes stumped by the more archaic language of the poetic versions of the Eddas, and the Sagas. Not all Asatruar can be scholars and linguists, and this is a decent book for the average layman. I would, however, reccomend that a person get several respected works to study norse mythology as this book does have some mistakes in the portrayal of the Gods and Goddesses. For those who intend to teach Norse Mythology to thier children, this easy to read text can be ideal for reading to children. A book I'd reccomend, with the understanding that this shouldn't be your only source.--Reviewed by Rachel Watkins(rachel_e_w)

Outstanding

This publication is an excellant compilation of the Nordic World-View. It describes many beings, events, and items and then references them with their original sources. A particularly enjoyable aspect of the book is that is uses an older, more scholarly language. A wonderful addition to any Norse collection!

Unbelievably vast amount of Norse reference, Astounding!

This book has got to be one of the most (if not THE most!) informative books on Norse mythology currently available. Each chapter went into great detail about Odin, Thor, Freya, etc. to the point that if you buy just one Norse mythology book for your library, this should be it. I'm going to read it again shortly just because there is so much excellent information in this tome. The highest recommendation!!
