Great purchase

A great story for younger middle school aged readers promoting the adoption of dogs from rescue organizations and shelters rather than puppy mill fed pet shops! I was able to find 8 used copies at a great price and in excellent condition. One copy was signed by the author herself!I donated the books to local public and school libraries to inspire future dog owners to adopt!

A Teacher's Dream

As a teacher I am constantly struggling to find books that spark an interest in my students. My Name is Henley is THE BOOK! My class was mesmerized listening to Henley's journey from abused puppy to beloved member of the household. After I finished reading it aloud,my young charges begged to be able to take it home and share it with their familly. I finally ordered a set for the classroom. Wonderful values, a story of great interest and a lovable new friend in Henley. This book has it all!

A simple book with a powerful message

I must confess that I didn't think I'd like this book at all when my wife gave it to me as a gift. The subject matter seemed potentially very upsetting to me, especially in light of the Oprah Winfrey expose on Lancaster County Pennsylvania puppy mills and the inhumane treatment and conditions that exist there. But, I was very pleasantly surprised to find the book was written in a non-threatening, child-friendly manner. The horrors Henley lived with before rescue were dealt with in a simple and straightforward manner, as if a child were telling the story of how he skinned his knee. The majority of this book is about Henley's relationships with people and the cats that live with him. The book is written from Henley's perspective. Henley, an Old English Sheepdog, a breed known for being very friendly but not particularly clever, is completely believable as the author, as the book conveys those breed characteristics perfectly. Even though the book contains some sadness, it is a very enjoyable read. Even if you aren't interested in animal rescue, you should buy this book for your children or yourself. And when you do, a significant portion of the sale goes to animal rescue organizations, so you're helping.

A MUST READ FOR EVERYONE!!!!!!!!

My Name is Henley: My Life and Times as a Rescued Dog is a WONDERFUL book! It is a must read for all ages!!!! A true believer in Humane Education, I read this book to my class every year! The lessons taught in this book are priceless! It teaches self acceptance, the acceptance of others, the value of kindness to animals and humans in a way that reaches children of all ages as well as adults. I don't know one person who did not fall in love with this book and Henley. This book should be a mandatory read in every classroom and in every home throughout the world. If it was- this world would be a much better place for animals and humans!!!!! Mindy Saltzman

Animal lovers and Animal Rescue - great read all ages

For all of us who love animals and wonder how anyone could be cruel to them, here's a book to celebrate what others have done to save a wonderful sheepdog and some of his four-legged friends! Henley tells his story from a dog's viewpoint and readers are reminded that in a world that can sometimes be cold and cruel, there are clouds with silver linings. This book was written for young readers with a lesson in mind, but is great for readers of any age at all. I highly recommend it.
