We purchased this series to help my oldest learn to read. His Kindergarten teacher had told us he would never learn to read. The books are simply written and maintain the same plot line through all the books. The main character is always "Little (letter of the book." Each character has a box and decides to fill it with items that start with that letter. My oldest (now 8) reads on the 6th grade level with full comprehension. These books have done wonders in our house. I'm sorry to find that this series is now so hard to come by. I will definately hold on to these for my other children and then for their children.
Ideal for a Two Year Old
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 25 years ago
This children's book is ideal for teaching reading fundamentals to a two year old child. The subjects in the story are well illustrated with the text on or next to the illustration, such as a picture of a box with the word "box" spelled out on the picture. There is sufficient words and illustrations on each page to maintain a toddler's attention without the toddler becoming bored. Repetition of the illustrations and words emphasizing the "b" sound encourages the toddler to vocalize the sound and establishes naming consistancy. At the end of the book there are simple nouns that begin with "b" and matching illustrations encourages a toddler to take learning a step further by naming additional illustrations and words that begin with the "b" sound. The use of little "b" is cleverly imprinted in the child's mind making this book a favorite to be read over and over again at bedtime.
