GREAT MUSIC THEORY BOOK

The third part of MUSIC IN THEORY AND PRACTICE in the second volume was written by Bruce Benward and despite more musical devices concentrates on analysis methods, and analysis of musical examples from the 16th century until present day. It follows the same straightforward line as the first - explanations limited to the indispensable minimum and written in a schematic way that makes it very easy to grasp, followed by plentiful musical examples, mostly from music literature. I strongly recommend you to also take this part because here you see all the musical devices you've learned previously and more in the context of complete musical works. After you take this book a musical piece is no longer just a bunch of notes, or a beautiful melody but a meaningful organized whole. ( This review concerns the 3rd edition.)
