Muddy Banks

This book is very good for kids ages9-12. this review is mainly for teachers, here is a complete summary of the book... Bethel Banks was out in the forest trying to reel in her sick neighbor's cow when she spotted Boy. After questioning him she rode him into town, on a horse, under her skirts. Boy took a bath, ate food, and crawled through a window to Miz Banks'room. BOy had rolls for the first time. Boy tried to name himself, but couldn't think of a name, so bethel gave him a temperary name of Muddy Boy banks until he thought of a name. Doctor Murray helped Boy's leg. Bethel lied to Jordan, Boy's old owner whom he ran away , and told him that boy was uncouncious and could become lame, when he was really just sleeping from Doctor Murray's tonic. Bethel bought the "lame" boy from Jordan for $100. Doctor Murray confronted Muddy about what had happened with the sale. Muddy stayed in bed for three days from his injury to his leg. Muddy makes friendswith Cajun boy Jo Bear. Jo Bear and Muddy went to the fort. Muddy told Jobear he was running away. Jo Bear almost lost his boat. Muddy was left with doing bethel's chores when she left to do a birthing with Doctor Murray. Muddy had to make the rollsfor the hotel, the rest of his daily chores, and with the help of Jobear, kill and dress twenty fryers for Captain Dowling. Jo Bear took Muddy to watch the men practice their targets at the fort. After their practice, the men taught the boys about the different types of cannons. Miz Banks asked Muddy to take some rolls to the Confederates. Muddy didn't want to because it was helping the enemy/ Miz banks sold Muddy to himself for $1. Miz Banks was seceretly paying Muddy for doing his chores. Muddy ended up giving the rolls to the injured soldiers. In the end Muddy changes his name to Frederick crocker Banks, after a Yankee commander, and they all lived happily ever after. this marvelous summary was written by my 10 year old daughter who has just given you a very detailed summary of the book titled "Muddy Banks" by Ruby C. TOlliver.

Muddy Banks

This is a great book for junior high kids. It goes hand in hand with the Texas History that is taught in 7th grade. I highly recommend anyone who wants a realistic look at what the real life trials and struggles life would be like during the time period the story takes place.
