Is it good?

I consider this an excellent book for those "truly motivated" in learning a second, third or fourth language. And I do repeat, "truly motivated." I used it in the past to teach myself Italian and became proficient in the Italian language; "social" level. Due to my personal experience, I am currently using it to teach an "intermediate" Spanish language course for adult students. In this context, I am using it as a six-month course. I dedicate three classes to each book lesson. In the second trimester, I made the third class a "reading comprehension" lesson, choosing Reader's Digest in Spanish as reading material. The level of Reader's Digest is 12 years of age or 6th graders. My students are absolutely delighted. They are able to read and translate into Spanish Reader's Digest articles. My students have a 6-month incursion into the Spanish language at the ratio of three --1 and a half hours classes-- a week. Running the risk of being redundant, I would like to stress that my students are highly-motivated and disciplined adults.

Critique of Metodo Cortino

I am currently teaching an English as a second language class in Estes Park, Colorado. My students seem to enjoy practicing the conversations in the text book, though at times I think some of the vocabulary is complicated for beginners. The only real problem I have with the book is that it stereotypes men and women. For example, all the doctors, dentists and professional types are males while all the secretaries and non-professional types are females. I would rather not introduce hispanic folks to an outdated image of the United States where sexism is the norm.

Ingles En 20 Lecciones

Based on the earlier review, I ordered this book. I used it twice in my ESL class with great success. I have now ordered one for each of my students who represent six latin countries. It is well organized, but the students viewed it as a rather complex book. The book price is low, but I think that it will push the students to greater levels. I'll write another review after this session is over and let you know how they viewed it through completion.

ESL Teachers--Get This One!

Ingles En 20 Lecciones is the best book I have used with my Spanish-speaking students. It is complete with: practical dialogues written in both English and Spanish, a grammar guide, a pronunciation guide, a dictionary, and an extensive verb usage guide. The book is also useful for English speakers attempting to learn Spanish. I am about to order 8 more copies!
