Fun reading , Great eating!

I found Mrs.Appleyards Family Kitchen at a garage sale about 4 years ago. Quite frankly, I bought it because it was rather unique and I was looking for books to put on a shelf. I liked the way it looked. My Aunt Frieda used to make a wonderful cranberry bread and I had just taken over doing Thanksgiving dinner for my family. On a lark, I began flipping through this book and found a recipe that used white raisins (like my aunt Frieda's). It was a fabulous recipe! Then I tried the pie dough and recieved compliments EVERY time I make a pie.(I rather shamlessly have taken credit for "my" pie dough even though it is actually Mrs. Appleyard's thousand layer pie dough. I not only love the recipes, but the humor involved with the text. I wish I could meet her! I'm afraid I keep this book in my kitchen close at hand...and not as decoration on the shelf!
