Excellent depiction of loss of faith and redemption

Mother of Prevention by Lori Copeland surprised me, as I think it does many readers. The cover and promotion make this book look like light inspirational chick-lit, but the topics it handles are much deeper, and it takes the reader on a meaningful journey. Kate Madison's life is perfect: perfect job, kids, husband, home, etc until her firefighter husband is killed in the line of duty and everything Kate thought she could rely on, including God, seems to be in chaos. Kate has to face her fears of being alone as well as face the fact that her life will not be the way she imagined it to be. Kate's fears start spilling over onto her daughters making them frightened and dependent as well. Copeland does an excellent job of handling Kate's fears and her struggles with the Lord. Lots of us have turned our backs on the Lord when we feel that He has let us down, and we all have to learn that He's not the one who walks away; we do. Kate has a lot of lessons to learn throughout this novel, and not everything is tied up neatly when the story ends. There are a few laughs in this book and lots of great characters, but don't read this expecting chick-lit, read this expecting to be moved in your faith.

good grief

This is the story of a Kate Madison, wife and mother, who sets out for San Francisco after the tragic loss of her husband. A woman who is preoccupied with fears must learn to set them aside for the sake of her two daughters. She wonders how she will go on and survive with out her husband. This story has many touching moments of grief where Kate can't take it anymore, yet marches on. The author does a wonderful job of showing how easy it is to be consumed with grief. Kate gets so bogged down with surviving and helping her girls survive that she begins to think the world revolves squarely around her. It was nice to see the reality of grief instead of supermom quickly moving on and conquering the world. The author also does a wonderful job of exibiting Kate's relationship with God. The honest anger Kate has for losing her husband/best friend. The feelings of abandonment. The recognition Kate shows when she sees God working in her life. The blessings she credits God with even in this time of grief. Lastly, let's not forget that laughter is the best medicine. Kate has much adapting to do in her new role. With these changes come many blunders. Kate is able to laugh at her situation and move on. Her children's antics at time test her limits. Sometimes they force her to cry but many times she is forced to laugh. I am sure you will find the same to be true as you read this wonderful book. Courtesy of Lone Star Latte-n-Libre

A Sweet Book

"Mother of Prevention", was a sweet book which shows the main character's changing emotions as she goes through her husband's death; a much needed move from Oklahoma; and the transitioning into a new life. Finding that her new neighbors are more than willing to lend a hand, makes her transition easier-at least for awhile. I recommend it to anyone who loves a great fiction book! A MUST READ

Lori Copeland has done it again...written a book that takes the reader on a fun, and entertaining journey. With her smart humor Lori takes us on an emotional ride with a story that is touching, and inspiring. I would highly recommend Mother of Prevention to anyone looking for a great read.
