The humor of my past meets the humor of the present

When I was in elementary school, I learned to read from the original Dick, Jane and Sally books. Even at the young age of first and second grade, we used to scoff at some of the situations. In our minds, the most ridiculous involved the clothing worn by the adults, the men were almost always wearing a tie and the women had on fancy skirts or dresses. This appeared to be the dress code even when doing dirty work and was in no way a reflection of the clothing our adult relatives wore. This book is a humorous look back at those "times", all three have grown up and their lives are as follows: *) Dick is a systems engineer married to Susan, a minor character in the books. He is the father of three boys, plays golf and works hard. *) Jane is a divorcee with two daughters, works as the loan officer of a bank by day and sells Amway products part-time. *) Sally has been married and divorced twice and works as a public relations director for a winery. Interspersed with the humor that can only be understood by someone who grew up with these books is the style of clothing worn by the characters, especially Sally. She is depicted in very tight-fitting workout clothing that shows her curves. I enjoyed this book for the present humor and the look back at the humor that I experienced so many years ago.

Goofy, fun, not to be mistaken as reader

You need to take a second look at this book to figure out it's NOT the usual Dick and Jane. Dick and Jane have grown up. It's listed as "humor" not "school book." Some of the humor is a sad reflection of today's reality - like the visit to Grandma that doesn't happen. Overall, it's a spoof, weird, goofy, funny, amusing, and not necessarily suitable for children.

Laugh out loud fun!

The first time I read this brief parody, I was alone in a room but literally laughed out loud. Marc Gallant has captured the wording, the feel, and especially the "cadence" of this genre of books.A WONDERFUL and funny reminder of childhood. If you like parodies at all, you will love this book. Only other item nearly as funny was a one-time run of "Off the Wall" Street Journal, published on April 1 in the mid 1980s.

Funny...A good satire of the genre.

I collect the old Dick and Jane readers and was just shown this book by a friend. Hillarious take off on the series. I think it was very creative and would be enjoyed by any "Baby Boomer" who used the Dick and Jane readers or anyone familiar with them. Even though it is out of print, I hope to acquire a copy.

A Baby Boomer Classic

More Fun with Dick and Jane is a Baby Boomer classic! It is a spoof of the readers that we were the last generation to use. The old Dick and Jane primers have been updated with Dick fighting tension headaches and Sally skydiving ! It is a fun look at how "things used to be." More Fun with Dick and Jane is a good gift for an old friend and can be used as a teaching tool for social change or for teacher education
