#3 of the MONTANA SAGA -- Jake Hawthorne's story

MONTANA RED, the old devil, is a legend on the wild horse range. Clea Mathison, from old money, to a stinkin' rich, emotionally abusive husband. She loves her prima-donna black warm-blood 7 year old mare. She has won many championships. [Oh come on, 7 is too old to have a first foal? Never bothered our horses.] Jake Hawthorne, brother to Elle who married Chase Lomax, is working for Natural Bands, an organization who wants to keep the wild horses in their natural habitat. Celeste has provided him with top-of-the-line vehicles for that purpose. He wants to pay off his mortgage on his ranch in the Garnet Mountain range. Clea, in a round-about way has found her way to Montana and Elkhorn Ranch where she has rented a cabin as a hideaway to start a new life. She is bound and determined to toughen up and learn to survive on her own. You have to give her credit for that. Then we meet uncle Buck and his friend Teddy [a couple of loveable old coots] when Jake and they find an intruder at his cabin and gets his truck disabled by a shotgun. Jake is almost recovering from the lose of a woman he was living with [and her 2 sons]and loved. She decided to go back to her ex-husband for monitary security for her and the children. Jake has definitely become a loner, he doesn't want any ties to a woman or a place. He fears he will never settle down. Well, now the legend, Montana Red shows up and steals Ari. The men call him a stalker. The red stallion has enough age and experience to get away with taking a mare if he wants her. Ho, Ho, the sheriff calls and deputizes Jake to bring the black mare in and to take her to Texas. Red had other ideas and wrecked Jake's plan to collect the reward being offered. Wow, fifty thousand dollars for a horse that Brock Burlingame really doesn't want. The pheromones are in the air and attacking both Jake and Clea. The budding romance is being helped along by uncle Buck in a humorous and bizarre way. Montana's wild land becomes real to the reader and the journey to hunt the wild horses is an added thrill plus the romance or really the maturing of a city gal as she takes on the lonesome cowboy [our ideal man] makes this story such an excellent read. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED -m - to me, definitely a keeper.

Montana Red

Genell Dellin has done it again!!!!!!I love this book!!!!!!!!It also makes us all aware of the environmental issue concerning wild horses. I hope that this book will be made into a movie or television special.

A fun contemporary Montana romance

In North Texas, Clea Mathison serendipitously steals "her" horse Ariel from her ex-spouse Brock, a fake in every sense of the word except when he seeks revenge. Clea would not call abducting Ariel a theft as she and the steed were one as they rode together until her vindictive wealthy and influential former husband cut her off from her beloved horse. Though she fears every mile she drives towards Okalahoma and beyond to Big Sky Country that she will be caught, Cleo knows the risk of jail time is worth having her beloved horse with her. Jake Hawthorne has signed a one year contract with California based "deep pockets" Natural Bands who wants to "baby-sit" horses in their natural habitat; he took the job to make plenty of money after losing his heart to Victoria and the two boys, but money proved stronger than love. Still his reason for accepting the wrangler does not sit well with him as in the past he accepted jobs because of adventure. At his house, Jake, Teddy and Buck see Clea in her real fox fur vest holding precariously a shot gun that she fires and kills a truck; they assume she is a horse thief although she stopped at the wrong barn. When Ariel escapes, Jake and Clea pursue; as they fall in love on the trail, Brock chases after the woman who embarrassed him. Though Brock comes across as an obstinate nasty person, readers will enjoy this fun contemporary Montana romance starring two protagonists who distrust love based on recent experiences. The story line is fast-paced with charming droplets of humor brought mostly by Teddy and Buck. Fans will enjoy this fine Big Sky romance from the moment Clea kills the truck and especially appreciate joining the lead couple on the trail after spirited matchmaking Ariel. Harriet Klausner
