I enjoyed this book with my grand daughter. I made a memory book simular to this book when I took the same road "66" to the west in the early 60s. I think that comparing the two trips made the book good for us. It can be used as a learning tool, and has cute features.. Not sure if a girl who read it, who does not have another person who is older, will get as much from the book..... unless they saw the movie CARS, that mentions the route also.
A fun American Girls book for Molly fans.

It's August 1946. With the war and rationing over, Molly's dad has decided to take the family on a road trip from their home in Illinois along Route 66 to Los Angeles, California. In a scrapbook given to her by her older sister, Molly writes about her adventures along the way, as she travels through Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, and finally California. She visits the Grand Canyon, sees a rodeo, goes to a real Pueblo Indian village, and more. This is a fun book sure to be enjoyed by American Girls fans who love Molly's stories. It includes some nice removable objects, and lots of photos and drawings. I'd recommend this book to all American Girls fans.
A really different sort of book, excellently done

This is another in the American Girls series about Molly McIntire, a ten-year-old girl living in the America during World War 2. In this book, the war is over, and Molly's Dad takes the family on a cross-country road trip: Route 66 from Chicago, Illinois of Hollywood, California! Along the way, Molly has adventures, meets new people, and learns a lot. This book, though, is entirely different that any other Molly book my daughter and I have read. It is in the form of a scrapbook that Molly kept. Each page has text, and illustrations in the form of pictures and whatnot that a girl would attach to a scrapbook. In fact, there are eight souvenirs that can be removed from the book and played with by your own little American girl! (My daughter loved the decoder!)My eleven-year old daughter was absolutely delighted with this book. At first she enjoyed thumbing through it, and looking at the pictures and removable souvenirs. And then, she read the whole book and added it to her Molly collection. This is a really different sort of book, excellently done. We highly recommend it.

This is one of the funnest things I have ever seen put out by the American Girl series. This is Molly's scrapbook as she travels from Chicago to Los Angeles. You get to see the stops her and her family make, and the items she collects. This is a must have for any American Girl.
A Fun Scrapbook of Route 66

Molly's Route 66 Adventure is an entertaining introduction to post-war travel along America's Main Street. It is written as a scrapbook with journal type entries by Molly McIntire, the 10 year old title character from American Girl's "Meet Molly" series. As a scrapbook, there is not a strong storyline and only brief information for each place "visited" by Molly. However, the information given is historically correct and even uses the 1945 names of places, such as "Boulder Dam" for what is now called "Hoover Dam". The most enjoyable part of this book is the graphics. Each page has black and white photographs and postcard images. There is a map that opens up, envelopes with Mollys' souveniers, booklets, a meal receipt, a menu and a lot of fun things to look at and even take out of the book. It reminds me of The Jolly Postman, which has letters that can be taken out of envelopes and read. I would recommend Molly's Route 66 Adventure for ages 8 and up because of the content and because the envelopes and other removable items will need to be handled gently. Even though the written information is by no means comprehensive, the scrapbook format is a lot fun and could be the springboard for pursuing more detailed information about Route 66 or serve as inspiration to start one's own postcard collection!
