my maiden voyage into science fiction

With a recommendation from a friend, I ordered a copy of MOLLY FYDE. I never thought that I would really enjoy science fiction, but after a few pages of "Molly", I was not only intrigued, but proven wrong. By the middle of chapter two, I was hooked - only putting the book down when real life or sleep got in the way. Non-stop, "on the edge of your seat" action and perfectly crafted characters take the reader along with Molly and crew on their adventure. The last few pages left me breathless and anxiously awaiting book number two! I have officially made the "jump" into the world of Sci-Fi.

Brilliant and Charming

What Howey has done here is create a story so complex in nature, yet so well-contained that it is enjoyable on many levels. This feeling echoes throughout the characters, settings, and themes readers are presented with page after page, leaving you wanting to soak up everything this adventure has to offer. I occasionally found myself so exhausted upon finishing a chapter because this story makes you THINK and consider tough issues that can't possibly be tied up nicely. For me, this is the mark of a great read! The author has also brought together a wonderful ensemble cast and managed to create characters that you respect, appreciate, and love because of and in spite of their flaws. The characters and the planets they inadvertently reach are presented with such an authenticity that readers can't help but trust the author's intentions. I found myself rooting for the characters to succeed, yet also damning their character flaws at the same time (and then laughing at how organic it all felt)! In my humble opinion, the final member that joins the ranks of the Starship Parsona truly rounds out the team and gives them an appealing advantage - a soul. We are with Molly and Cole throughout the entire book, yet my favorite components included the introduction of new characters and worlds, only so endearing by the excitement from Molly's vantage point. So many parts of this story reminded me of other great reads, science fiction and beyond, that I found myself with both a sense of familiarity and newness. It isn't often that a book can leave so much so in its path and promise for more of the same. If you want to read a great book, pick up the Parsona Rescue. If you just want an o.k. book, I hear Dan Brown's got a new one out :)

Perfect for all readers!

I'll start by saying, "Wow!" This book does everything a great book should do! The story piques your curiosity from the start and it takes you on a journey that causes you to loose track of time and the world around you. Instead, you become an invisible member of the crew of Parsona. I read the book in less than twenty-four hours because I just couldn't put it down until I knew how it ended! The characters in the story all have traits that every person can relate to on some level. They each grow as the story progresses and you find yourself wondering what you would do in the situations they find themselves in. One of the things I enjoyed most was the fact that this book gives you just enough detail to allow your imagination to form an amazing mental image of the people and places that are encountered. You really find yourself right in the midst of all the adventure. For those of you who are skeptical because it's listed as science-fiction, don't be. It has the things that sci-fi readers enjoy, but they are developed and described in ways that don't make those of us who aren't science fiction fans get lost in technical terms or other `space jargon'. Both types of readers will be pleased. Bottom line: This book will be enjoyed by any reader, man or woman, adult or child, sci-fi lover or not.

Ender Wiggins, Meet Your Match

I had the great fortune of reading an early draft of this novel. Early-draft warts and all, I couldn't put it down. I couldn't even pause long enough to grumble about common grammatical errors and language-choice blunders--the story was just that compelling. Months later, the final retains the likable characters, the nonstop action, the incredible pan-galactic locales, and the deft handling of moral, ethical, and philosophical issues that some would like to see relegated to an easy "black or white." Give this book to the teens in your life or, if you're a sci fi fan, read it yourself, no matter your age. If you can't find something in Molly Fyde to like, then you might want to check with your physician...you might not be human after all.

Molly Fyde is a great adventure story

This book grabs the reader from the first page. It was an impossible tale to put down with one cliff-hanger after another propelling readers toward the end and clamoring for the next in the series. I'm not a big fan of science fiction yet I found myself loving Molly's adventures through life and space. I think it is because the author spends lots of time on character development and story line. I loved the little details about the life and cultures of each place Molly and her crew visited - I felt like I was there. It's not often that a book with teenage characters has a grown woman laughing out loud in some places and tearing up in others. Even stranger, there were times I found myself pausing to contemplate some deep philosophical issue - and enjoying it. This is a great read - the first time through the third. It's one of those books you can read for pure entertainment OR for the deeper life lessons. I can't recommend it strongly enough.
