Mojo & Pickle Jar

This overlooked gem needs many more readers. No less than Gene Wolfe states that in his opinion "Mojo and the Pickle Jar" is one of the best novels he's read. And he's right. Written in an understated and humorous style, the book virtually reads itself, and cries out to be read aloud. I'd like to know whatever happened to the author, since evidently nothing more has come from his pen. "Mojo" is a fantasy novel built on Roman Catholic and more general Christian notions of reality, with interesting and well-drawn characters. It would make a great movie.

This is a fun little adventure story about an uneducated teenager, a relentless lawman, an old 'witch', and a pretty senorita with a demon in a jar. It is not particularly ground-breaking or well written, but it is entertaining. It reads much like a made-for-TV movie might seem when compared to a big screen movie. Good for light reading, or teens.
