The list of books on a similar theme to this one written by these two authors, suggests they might be making a life-time study of the paranormal. Unlike others who have tackled this subject, they bring a great deal of experience and research to this product. Of course, the reader can only accept the content of books such as this on the grounds that the authors are simply recounting what is claimed to have been seen or experienced by others and this is why such dedicated degrees of research are so vitally important. In this instance they limit the subject matter to the 20th Century and, by so doing, the reader is able to form an understanding of what type of strange phenomena is still occurring and being reported - today, world-wide. Thoughtfully divided into 17 main chapters, the different subjects covered include many old favourites - such as; Poltergeists, Big Foot, UFOs, Ghosts, Monsters and so forth. Whilst I have previously read several different accounts of such mysteries, this is a most thorough compilation where I found much that was new to me. My two criticisms of this book both concern the use of footnotes. Throughout the text we frequently find little numbers which refer to specific footnotes - all of which are then found at the back of the book where they occupy 21 pages. If I had paused in order to find and read the relevant footnote each time I found one, I would have given up on this book altogether. Furthermore, the footnotes for each chapter begin at No 1, so whenever I did check a specific item I had to ensure I was looking at the right number for the right chapter. Altogether this produced too much interruption and spoiled the flow of a good read. Far better for all footnotes to appear at the bottom of that page so that they may be easily glanced and content noted without spoiling anything at all. NM
