You just HAVE TO READ this book!!!

I have bought this book 3 times (4 now!) and loaned it out and never got it back! But it is WORTH IT to buy it again because this is one of those RARE BOOKS that keeps you glued to your chair! Once you pick it up to read it, you can NOT put it back down (damn the housework, job, etc!) until you finished reading it completely! It is a book that is half-fiction and half non-fiction! No wonder it is so hard to find here in the USA! The ENDING will make you wonder...well, you have to read it to believe it!! AWESOME BOOK!! You will NOT be disappointed!!

Awesome!

A friend told me about this book and I purchased it the next day. The bookstore only had one copy left so it was definitely meant for me. What an eye opener! I bought the book in 1984, and I still have my original copy which is marked up and dog-eared throughout. It is one of the best books I have ever read. I couldn't put it down. I found copies in the UK for my friends who fell in love with it (the U.S. copy is bigger than the UK book and has large text). I refer to the Mission often. Was it fact or fiction? You decide. Who cares.

I think it's a government conspiracy....

Every time I hunt down this book to buy it, as soon as the place calls me to discuss a price for it, suddenly it disappears again....Ah, elusive Tilley. I read this book in the seventh grade, and was flabbergasted then.... I wish I could find it...What happens when the son of G(g)od, who is very much a man, falls to earth in the company of a Jewish lawyer in New York City? Dark forces, and a varied host of strange characters (sounds like typical New York) descend upon the city, and mass pandemonium (as well as the requisite theological debate) ensue.

I read Mission for the first time some 16 years ago, quite soon after it was first published. Mission had me hooked up, right from the start. What would you do if he (aka He) dropped by, fueling your doubts in the old story, providing you with a new one?. Or if you were a docter in intensive care, when a patient is brought in with these remarkable, even typical, wounds? There is a sense of wonder in this book, that's firmly based in our ancient Lore and recent archeology. I'm sceptic at best when it comes to religion, but a very interested sceptic. This book set my thoughts in motion and shifted my views. Somewhat.Besides from all that, it's a very well written book, with well filled out characters, a good plotline, attention to details, tension and thought intermingled handsomely, and oh, such a nice sting in the tail. It's too bad that there are so little people who have read the book, and that there are so few new copies available to give away to my friends. Please reprint this book! It's timeless.

Maybe the best twist-in-the-tail story I've seen!

I've been reading and rereading this book for well over 10 years. What an imagination the author has... The story treads a sure and nimble path through the edges of Christianity, mysticism, numerology, philosophy, science fiction and wry humour; there's not much in the way of established religious thought that isn't provided with a compelling alternative explanation as Leo Reznick finds his humanity refocused by The Man. Certainly my favourite book - now I know it's out of print there's no way I'm lending it out again!
