4 1/2 + stars...good mystery with a little romance

2nd in the Mudbug (Ghost-in-law) series. Sabine LaVeche needs to find her biological family for medical reasons. When she hires Beau Villeneuve, she wasn't expecting him to be so downright H-O-T. He is concerned that she won't get the desired results in finding her family and finds himself trying to protect her--for more than just professional reasons. When Sabines starts hearing Helena Henry, the deceased mother-in-law of her best friend, Maryse, she gets concerned that something really bad is about to happen to her--Helena only seems to appear to people in mortal danger. I highly recommend reading the first book in the series, Trouble in Mudbug, before this one. Although this book is a stand alone, it will help with the finer details to read the other book. I really enjoyed this one. The mystery was a good one...the clues are subtle and played out very well. Some things are a little obvious, but it works well in the story. I'm looking forward to the next book where more about Helena's death is revealed (and solved, I believe).

Delightful return to Mudbug

Mischief in Mudbug by Jana Deleon continues the delightful tales of Mudbug, Louisiana. Psychic LeVeche is in desperate need to locate any family members after her cancer diagnosis. She hires a PI Beau Villeneuve to find them and hopefully a matching donor. Beau Villeneuve loved taking the hard cases. Sabine LeVeche seems to be one of the hardest. He doesn't really know why the search is so important to Sabine but he is willing to help her find them. As Beau and Sabine start to find answers about her past someone wants to keep it buried. After finally meeting her long lost family, Sabine is more confused then when she started. Having Beau on her side makes Sabine realize she needs to start living all out. But can Sabine put herself out there with her future so uncertain? Mischief in Mudbug is a laugh out loud book, loaded with southern charm and passion. The characters are quirky and a delight to get to know. Beau and Sabine meet under unusual circumstance but find something out of the ordinary. Jana DeLeon is definitely on my auto buy list.

engaging sequel

After Helena the ghost makes a disturbing appearance during a client's visit, Mudbug psychic Sabine LeVeche learns from Dr. Breaux that her biopsy test affirms she suffers from acute myeloid leukemia; a type that with treatment most people go into remission especially if the person receives a bone marrow transplant from a close relative. However, Sabine has a minor problem with the bone marrow therapy; she needs a relative, but knows of none in spite of her efforts to find kin. Private investigator Beau Villeneuve, her BFF Maryse and Helena help the stunned twenty-eight years old woman. However, their efforts are sidetracked by someone trying to kill Sabine and her attraction to Beau who feels the same way about her. This is an engaging sequel, but the TROUBLE IN MUDBUG is that several key support characters (especially Helena) cannot stand alone without having read the previous book. Still Sabine's search for blood relatives takes a serious health turn that makes for a serious story line while her mutually shared feelings with Beau adds a naked romantic element to the recipe. The suspense subplot adds tension, but also takes a back seat to the health crisis and the attraction as Jana DeLeon cooks an interesting spin in Mudbug. Harriet Klausner
