Millennium Babe: The Prophecy

Ms Dravis' breezy style sometimes threatens to undercut the seriousness of her theme (a prophecy fulfilled during modern days), but in the end it serves as a kind of innocence reminiscent of Vonnegut, though not as acerbic. And this approach is so deceptively disarming that the story kind of sneaks up on you, pulling you in when you didn't even realize you were caught. It's tough to pull off this type of story without being preachy, but Ms Dravis grabs you with the skill of a surgeon who doesn't want you to know you're being operated on.

What a joy it was to read Betty Dravis' book, Millennium Babe: The Prophecy. The book is filled with unique characters from David Wetterman, who sets the stage for all the events to follow, to the boby guards and the fans. The author brings every character "alive". This is definitely a "must read". The book takes you through a series of twists and turns and keeps you guessing on what will happen next. Not only did I find myself wanting to know the end result about the new babe, but equally as intrigued with the "love story" the author so easily weaves into the story line for Bitsy and David. The surprise ending is spectacular and definitely leaves you wanting more!!! Bring on the sequel!!!

Every once in awhile a first novelist comes on the scene with an idea for a story that holds the promise for world improvement. Instead of all the junky, formulistic, overwritten, full-of-violence cardboard cutouts for characters that save the world from some apocalyptic event, the characters in this novel have a sense of compassion and destiny in wanting to protect and nourish the advent of The Prophecy. The first-born child of the new millennium is destined to bring a renaissance of spiritual possibilities to a world in desperate need. Who will control this child of special powers becomes the question for nations to ponder, and criminals to start plotting.The conditions for recognizing the TRUE BABE of The Prophecy becomes an international dilemma that baffles the authorities until a bright young married couple, owners of a small Silicon Valley electronics company, produces a computer program named The Baby Counter.At first I was put off by the cutesy names--Wetterman for T. V. weatherman, the Prophet, and Bitsy for a "little woman," his producer, who is really smart and gutsy-- but Bitsy and David grow on you because the author does such fine writing in particularizing their characters. The love scenes between Bitsy and David are beautifully written with passion, yet with a restraint and consideration of the others feelings without manipulation or psychological projection. These scenes show a real sense of moral fiber and maturity without losing their bite or sense of humor which is a special gift of this author.The story unfolds against the background of seaside Capitola, the Pinnacles National Monument, the fine restaurants of the Silicon Valley, and the descriptions are vivid enough to make me wish I was there interacting and enjoying a friendship with the characters and the settings. Some scenes are set in Washington D.C. as the President battles certain members of Congress who try to force him to denounce the prophecy.There are twists and turns to the plot that will keep the reader turning the pages as the bad guys try to manipulate and change the prophecy. The suspense builds right down to the final seconds and the ending is such a surprise that it made me gasp, and that is hard to do because rarely is THE climax followed by a second and Equal climax. Spiritual nourishment is lurking in the shadows of this unusual novel. Hold on to your heart, it succeeds in witty and loving ways "Bring on the sequel, Betty Dravis. Your readers are waiting."

I was going to read this book while I was on my way for my most exciting world adventure, Russia. Instead I ended up in the emergency ward at the hospital with my husband who had to have triple by-pass surgery. While I waited for five hours of surgery to be completed, I started reading Betty Dravis's book, Millennium Babe. I completely lost track of time, I was so into this book. Since I was born and raised in the Silicon Valley, all the places she talks about were familiar places to me. It was so much fun. I felt like I was reading a travel log of exciting places to go. And the food in the book, I had to go to the snack machines twice. I could hardly put the book down, but I was there for emergency surgery and this was not the plane to Russia. I was so grateful that Betty had written a really exciting book because it filled up every moment I sat in that waiting room. I could hardly resist reading the last chapter ahead of time, but I try not to cheat when it comes to wonderful books and their plots. I was not disappointed, the ending was a total surprise. I sat there looking at the green walls and wondering when the sequel was coming out. I had to know more about the Babe!!! Don't miss reading this book, expecially if you are from the Santa Clara Valley where it takes place. You will feel like you are home again and walking in an exciting future with adventure around every corner. If you don't know anything about Silicon Valley, you will think you have been there after reading this book. I hope Betty has already started that sequel.

I found this book to be very entertaining. I liked how the characters were fleshed out, they became real. The story line was different than I had originally expected with a number of "twists and turns" to keep you wondering what will happen next. Having spent a considerable amount of time in the San Jose, Santa Cruz and Capitola area, I also really appreciated all the good memories it brought back. When you live there its so easy to take for granted. What I'm looking forward to, is a sequel. Now that these fictional characters are so real,I'm dying to know..."what happens next?" One of the refreshing features about this book aside from the fact that it is very interesting, is the fact that the author has written it in a style that could be shared with a wide audience. Definition?....She managed to use multiple adjectives to describe people, situations and locations without having to swear or use any abusive language. Not something that I was looking for, but something that was noticable. I would like to see more from this author. Okay, How soon?
