Prescott, Harley and Klein's 6th edition provides a balanced, comprehensive introduction to all major areas of microbiology. Because of this balance, "Microbiology, 6/e" is appropriate for students... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I was assigned this book in college. It is definitely intense. However, it's intense in a positive way. I have always found microbiology to be one of the most interesting subjects of science. I have always been fascinated by parasites and bacteria. If you're assigned this book in micro class in college--definitely read this book. I also found Microbiology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers by Patrick Leonardi to be an excellent study guide for test prep.
Too much info

Extremely detailed, this book covers much more than MICROBIOLOGY. You can find a complete course of GENETICS within it as an example! This is a usefull book for undergrad's but there is no chance of being able to finish all of it in an undergraduate course in MICRO.It just covers everything and tries to squees all the info within its pages...I hope you will have fun studying it though...
Nicely done.

This book is nicely done, all together. The flow of information is well organized, with great cross-references and detailed graphs and pictures to help understand important concepts. Also, several appendices, a glossary, and a CD-ROM serve as helpful resources. The material is presented in a tasteful manner, not reducing the book to a mere picture book. This book, written for undergraduate and graduate students, gives serious information and is very detailed. It's the whole package!
An absolute fountain of information

This book is both fascinating and broad enough to be reliable as a reference. Can be picked up and flicked through or read topically. Rivals Madigan et al. Excellent illustrations and on the right level for undergrads.
Essential for all Biological Science Majors

My professor intended this book to be a reference for the microbiology course he taught. I personally found the book to be so interesting and well done that I just dived right into it, and still find more new things each time I crack it open. As a dual Biochemistry and Microbiology major, this book is going on my reference shelf.
