In MetaMagick: The Book of Atem , Philip H. Farber combines traditional ritual sensibilities with contemporary concepts of neurolinguistics and memetics to create a unique entity Atem. In this instance, the essence of an entity is encoded in a book and activated by the reader. At the same time, the book is a comprehensive manual of evocation, containing dozens of easy-to-follow rituals and exercises for exploring and creating magical entities of every sort. Farber teaches readers to wake up from their habitual trance, to reprogram themselves to stand in the Mystery without unnecessary mystification. This supercharged fusion of triedandtrue magical and psychological techniques moves beyond trauma, healing, and recovery into selffulfillment and selftransformation. Combining both disciplines with methods such as intentionality, autohypnosis, visualization, personification, and experiential journeys, Farber creates a powerful system that opens the way to peak experiences, selfknowledge, even cosmic consciousness. Rather than importing standardized healing images, readers learn to create their own emergent metaphors, their own creative strengths and flexible freedom. Atem is a living Magus, an icon for the twentyfirst century. Part transpersonal shaman, part inner guide, part inner healer, part role model, Atem becomes a personal therapist, a guide to selfdiscovery and selfinitiation. Atem, as healing fiction, helps readers to create their own breakthroughs, their own catharsis emotional clearing that frees energy from internal conflict to flow creatively into new expressions.
After interviewing Phil and reading his book Meta-Magick: The Book of ATEM, I must say that even the two combined (his interview and book) one couldn't completely encapsulate all of magick and advanced NLP throughout either means of exposure. Nonetheless, Phil has done an absolutely excellent job of putting this all in print for those of you able to grasp the meaning. http://www.MonaMagick.com
A good exploration of contemporary science and magic

Meta-Magick is an intriguing book which presents readers with an opportunity to create not one entity, but actually a number of entities based off of principles such as attention, passion, trance, language, making, and Fitting. Additionally Farber provides 36 exercises which can be used by people to learn how to integrate these principles into their lives. Farber also focuses on eight powers: Communication, neuroplasticity, transformation, transmission, beauty, understanding, balance, and opening. The book doesn't overtly focus on these powers much...instead the focus is more subtle. You will experience them through doing the exercises in the book, which is what the author intended. Meta-magick definitely is not intended to be something intellectually read, so much as it is intended to be experienced and worked with. You will get a lot of leverage out of this book if you do the exercises in them. It's an excellent book to introduce people to magic, but is also good for intermediate to advanced practitioners.
Excellent Stuff!

This book is excellent. Farber's approach to magick is experience over dogma. This book is light on theory heavy on practice. Just the way I like my magick books.
Explorations in modern magick

Phillip Farber has called on his expertise in NLP, hypnosis, neuroscience and extensive experience in ceremonial magicks to create a textbook detailing an systems type approach to a complete system of magick. The beauty of this is that the system of magick that you develop using Meta-Magick is attuned to you as you are the moment you do the exercises. By deriving a magickal system from your own reflexes, innate responses, patterns of thought and socialization the system becomes immediately potent and effective without having to learn and internalize complex correspondences, godnames, rituals, etcetera. I have attended a number of Mr Farber's workshops over the past ten years or so and am overjoyed to have this material collected and organized into a complete system. I recommend this book to anyone who wants magick without the proprietary trappings that move it into the realm of religion.
Best starting point for spiritual self development with NLP

Philip H. Farber has done a awesome job of combining memetics, magick and NLP. He has created his own magickal entity ATEM and shows you how to create your own by using the powers of ATEM. He does this with a combination of NLP, rituals, Aikido, body & energy work. The greatness in this book is that Philip Farber is able to make easy to use models out of age old rituals, but also transforms psychological NLP into the same easy to use rituals. By blending magick and NLP he shows his mastery of the subject and has created a guide for anyone aspiring to spiritual development. If I had to chose one book where to start, it will be Meta-Magick. Previously I recommended The Art of True Healing by Israel Regardie, but Meta-Magick is better.
