This warmly told biography of our sixteenth president is enriched by many authentic but seldom told anecdotes and complemented by bold color illustrations that capture the spirit of Lincoln and his era.
I teach at an inner-city school where many of the students are reading below grade level (but making great progress). This means I am always on the lookout for high-interest, low-level (high-low) books that deal with the content my students are responsible for learning. This book and the entire Landmark biography series is one of the best buys I have made yet. I bought this book for my 5th graders because they have been learning about the Civil War. The students who read this book loved it, and have gone on to read more of the biographies in the Landmark series. For those of you who are familiar with the DRA, this series is M (beginning 3rd grade reading level). However, the content is not watered down, so my students have learned a lot from reading these books.

The book is well written for my 2nd graders. Their interest soared in reading after completing this book.
