The New York Times bestselling novel that inspired the hit film Fiercely funny, honest, heart-breaking--this is an unforgettable novel from a bright talent, and a film that critics called "a touchstone for its generation" and "an instant classic." This is the funniest book you'll ever read about death. It is a universally acknowledged truth that high school sucks. But on the first day of his senior year, Greg Gaines thinks he's figured it out. The answer to the basic existential question: How is it possible to exist in a place that sucks so bad? His strategy: remain at the periphery at all times. Keep an insanely low profile. Make mediocre films with the one person who is even sort of his friend, Earl. This plan works for exactly eight hours. Then Greg's mom forces him to become friends with a girl who has cancer. This brings about the destruction of Greg's entire life.
The writing style was jarring and overall the book was trying to appeal to youthful readers who have limited language skills beyond vulgarities.
The Narrator served as the major annoyance to have me toss the book early.
Funny and Unexpected

I had expected this book to be somewhat like the other teenage books that I’ve read about cancer: either sappy and sentimental or full of love and self-discovery. Just a few pages in, I realized that it would not be how I expected. Nevertheless, it was funny and relatable. There were cringe worthy moments, but that’s just the reality of the teenage life. I enjoyed reading this book, but probably wouldn’t come back to it unless I have completed my ever growing to-be-read pile.
Just wasn't my jam.

I didn't like the immaturity of it tbh. I just couldn't get past it. I like the concept of the book but couldn't finish it

The writer warns you that you will end up hating them, and you most likely will. You will relate to one of the three main characters. I promise you that.
