This book was money well spent

I passed 70-228 on my first attempt, using this book in conjunction with Transcender and Books Online as my primary study resources. You won't get all the information you need to pass the real test from this book, but that is not its intent. It works well when used for what it is marketed as, which is a "cram" resource to supplement a sound knowledge of SQL Server 2000 administration. Especially useful for me were the practice questions, the practice test at the end, and the screenshots of Enterprise Manager dialogs. Good to have in the hours immediately before the test! The contents have a few errors, including referring to the model database as "modal" throughout the book, but that doesn't detract too much from the overall utility of the book. All in all, a good investment, considering the cost of each attempt on the real test.RD

Did the job!

This book gave me the extra pieces of information I needed to pass the exam. SQL 2000 ROCKS!

Passed the exam!

Although the middle chapters are formulaic and repetitive, I passed the exam on the first try using just this book to study. I have to side with results - the chapter-end tests and especially the self test covered almost all of the same types of questions I encountered.

Passed my exam!

I passed my exam the first time using just this book to study. It is boring and repetitive in the middle chapters, but success is what really matters. The end of chapter tests and the self test covered the same type of issues that were in the exam questions. Too bad it wasn't 50 pages shorter.

Covers everything Microsoft listed

This is a lengthy review of all of the topics laid down by Microsoft for the exam study guide, not just a brain-dump of the questions and answers like a lot of the tech-prep stuff. The self-test was a really complete review just before my test. Though the questions were different, I got a bunch of them right off because of the self-test and its description of the reasons why each was right or wrong. It's certainly not the 'great american novel' but then this is the most dry and boring type of reading there is. If it works, who cares if it is long. I liked the SQL 7.0 book better, since it was shorter.
