As Democratic Virgin Islands Congressman Stacey Plaskett referred to Matt Taibbi as a "so-called" journalist at a congressional hearing on Thursday, Taibbi, who published the Twitter Files late last year, defended his track record of reporting. During a hearing on the Twitter Files convened by the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government, Taibbi and journalist Michael Shellenberger were present. The documents made public by Taibbi and Shellenberger were based on records that showed interactions between the FBI and former Twitter officials that took place prior to Elon Musk's purchase of the social media network. Journalists published Twitter threads including emails from Twitter staff members that showed the company's historical decision-making procedures and content control attempts. On Thursday, Plaskett, a ranking member of the subcommittee headed by Republican Ohio Congressman Jim Jordan, dubbed Taibbi and Shellenberger "so-called journalists" and questioned their objectivity. The book "Matt Taibbi and Shellenger Michael: Twitter Files Hearing Eruption" by Gregory Richardson has further information.
