This book was on the whole a very well structured anthology showing how the debate amongst materialists has evolved on the nature of mind and the body. Hackett continues a fine tradition of providing first-rate philosophy at great prices.My chief gripe is that the dualistic selections at the beginning are Descartes and Spinoza--the latter in particular tends to be a favorite strawman for materialists and othere modern philosophers,...

This is a very good anthology for anyone who wants to begin getting a handle on the literature on materialism. The selection of essays is very good and includes many historically important pieces.
