Great "starter" book for new Exchange admins

I was given responsibility of my company's Exchange infrastructure during our migration from Exchange 5.5. This book helped me to learn the basics of installation and configuration. A knowledge of Active Directory is helpful (but this is not an AD book) and the book does not go in to a lot of depth on many topics such as troubleshooting. The book is easy to read and the writer's style is easy to follow, though he does point out the obvious frequently, but that is okay because this is a basics book. I found it a great starting point for learning Exchange 2000; the Exchange 2000 Server 24seven book is a great place to pick up where this book leaves off.

netbui444 is wrong

That's why I got this book, it explained EXACTLY what to do. Try setting a Recipient Policy ya big dummy.

Great book for anyone wanting to learn Exchange 2000

This is a great book for learning the basics of Exchange 2000. The book is well organized and answered most all of my basic questions since I was completely new to Exchange 2000. I know I have a lot to learn, but this book was an excellent starting place.

Straight from a beginner

Take it straight from a beginner: this is the perfect book for you. Oddly enough (for computer books) all of the sample screens are totally accurate as you go through the actual installs of Windows 2000 Advanced Server and Exchange 2000 Enterprise. Mr. Gerber explains each small detail: Windows basic installation, then promoting your installation to a domain controller by adding ADSI, then how Exchange 2000 uses ADSI and how to install and use the MMC builder. I'm now at the point where we've gone on and installed Office 2000, made the client settings, and are getting ready to test for an Outlook client. I'm telling you, from a guy who came here knowing zip, this book was perfect for me. Thank you.

Mastering Exchange Server 2000

I am not entirely new to Exchange, and this book deserves way better than 3 stars. Even more so if you are entirely new to Exchange. The book has step by step instructions on setting up Exchange and Win 2000 for a single domain. The author is very clear, and alerts you of any pitfalls, or different ways of doing things along the way. I also reccomend "MCSE Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Implementation and Administration Training Kit"
