Nat Cassidy's highly commercial, debut horror novel Mary: An Awakening of Terror, blends Midsommar with elements of American Psycho and a pinch of I'll Be Gone in the Dark.

Ughhhh I feel like I’m the exact right age for this to hit just right. I loved the themes woven throughout and I especially loved the MFM shade at the end 👀 (Hey, lower your pitchfork, I used to be a fan and I feel like I’ve earned the right to dislike them now.) I was initially skeptical (aren’t I always?) when Nat Cassidy said Mary was inspired by Carrie because listen, you can’t just throw around that work to me, I’m like a Carrie super fan. I watch it every week just to feel something. But yeah man, credit where it’s due, I can see the inspiration from Carrie just dripping off the page. Another book under the Good For Her/Feminine Rage category for me to lovingly place upon my shelf. Shout out to Jordaline for the book rec!
