Excellent help to understanding biblical culture

This book is one of my favorites. It is so valuable to understanding biblical culture. I've bought copies for my friends. In an A to Z format, you can learn about customs, measures, money, musical instruments, neighboring cultures and traditions. It has greatly enhanced my understanding of parables, as well as implied overstepping of traditions and consequences that occurred in the Bible.

cultural context

I believe this book is very important to the bible student,It is important in the sense that it gives us the detail that the bible doesnt,I believe every bible student should own one to fully understand the culture back then, also to make the proper interpretation,so we can have the correct application. This is very Important today where there are alot of wrong intepetations, and alot of ones own ideas about the bible,We have to understand what the books meant to the biblical audience.

Best Book Since the Bible

I am a Christian and must admit that I am ashamed at the lack of knowledge that most professing Christians have about their faith. That's just it, so many think that the pursuit of Archaeological evidence is showing a lack of faith. It is rather the contrary. God gave us minds for a reason. This book is highly recommended for solidifying one's faith due to the vast amount of empirical evidence that it relates; from the earliest mentions of the invading "Eberu" (Hebrew) peoples in letters sent from Cannanite princes to Pharoah Amenhotep to unearthed temples of the accursed god of the Philistines. All of the evidence is available. To remain ignorant is a decision.

Excellent Bible Reference Book

Nelson's Bible Manners & Customs is a very solid addition to any serious Bible student's library especially if one seeks a deeper knowledge and understanding of the cultural, economic, and socio-political environment of biblical times. It clearly explains how the people of these times lived and provides valuable information that will expand any student's understanding of the Bible....
