Good and Bad

I have both praise and criticism for Dorothy Marcic's "Managing With the Wisdom of Love."Reading this book encouraged me to reflect on myself as a manager - to examine my philosophies and question if I am employing the right approach and tools in my position. Any book that leads me to do that is worth the time I spent reading it. None of us has all the answers, and when works such as Marcic's cause you to re-examine your beliefs, actions and roles, I think the result is a more experienced, open-minded and prepared individual. This result is always positive.Marcic's New Management Virtues had some applicability to the real-world, especially her assertion that none of the virtues are possible without trustworthiness. I agree with this point. Regardless of what you think of Marcic's book, trust is the foundation of any relationship. At work, trust largely governs your interactions with your superiors and peers, but most of all your employees. Being able to trust those that report to you is a comfortable feeling, and the effectiveness and productivity of your team is greatly enhanced when trust among you exists. My most significant critique of the book is that it never addressed how you handle (or what to do with) individuals within the organization that are resistant, and plain refuse, change. The book only deals with examples where everyone seemed to embrace change, and thus it was successful. However, the reality is that many more organizations that attempt transformation will experience significant resistance. What do you do about the faction of employees that resist it? I would have liked some insight on this question.

Spirituality: the gateway to 21st century profitability

Marcic is able to speak the language that many executives and managers think in today's turbulant business environment. Many managers crave the need for spirituality and physically feel the pain of such a void, but are unable to express it (shame of coming across as soft) or implement it. Thank you for your message and insight. Spread the message!!!!

Fantastic!! Makes sense!

A must for everyone involved in any kind of business

A fantastic read-- change your life, change the world!

Once you've read this book, you will never view the workplace in quite the same way. How could we have ever thought that spiritual values could be separated from our work lives? Marcic reminds us of the universal principles that guide our lives as individuals as well as guiding the lives of healthy, profitable corporations--trustworthiness, unity, respect and dignity, justice, service and humility. Drawing on the wisdom of the ages from a wide variety of world religions, Marcic weaves a picture that is both profound in its simplicity yet splashed with the artist's brush of diversity. A colorful, challenging, insightful, and eloquent reminder of the best of who we are, and the best of who we can become. I recommend this book for bosses, for workers, and for people in general. Read it -- you'll be glad you did!
